Thread: my unconventional thoughts on the profession I chose
Except that this is a known bug with factories affecting multiple professions including Chef. Take Medic, for example, where a well-experimented stimpack B will have 20 or more uses. Now click those out of a factory crate, and voila, one-use stimpacks for 20x the normal material cost.
This is a vital issue for Chefs, Medics, and Doctors, and possibly other professions as well.
Sir Vimes,
There are two reasons I think this way. First, from an overall nutritional standpoint, my blap biscuits are far superior than my wastril bread (given an experimental result of amazing on each). Second, from a standpoint of name recognition, I prefer my customers to continue receiving desserts from me, rather than such staples as bread.

To begin, I'd like to state that I know my point of view is NOT the norm, and the desire will be strong, in some, to flame me, but hear me out.
The profession of Chef is NOT broken. Yes, it may need some tweaking - but again, it doesn't need an overhaul. I think that factories are right the way they are with regards to stacking, and I believe that the buffs are not horribly out of line with what they should be. Those are my statements, now here is the background.
I'm a factory chef. When I travel from city to city and give out samples they are usually marked as such - either (sample), (factory error), or (factory reject). More on that in a moment. A factory makes a stack of 25 that takes 5 inventory slots (6 when in use). That's the equivalent of 5 stacks of 5, good by most measures. Even with all experimentation from Cooking IV it would be difficult for a person to invest in both flavor (duration), and quantity (assuming that you want the best nutrition/buff). I've heard so many people speak of Wastril bread and, frankly, I don't understand why. I've just gotten my novice title, and I spend most of my time trying to perfect my blab biscuits. Why, you ask. I do that because it is the finest product I can make at the moment. I do make Wastril Bread, and have a schematic in my datapad that I will eventually run through my factory, but that is earmarked for some CH friends of mine. The blab biscuits are intended for my Cantina friends (mostly dancers). Yes, the food/drink bars on the character sheet need to update properly, that is broken. However, there is a direct link between the filling and duration (both triggered by the flavor/texture value of the food). Furthermore, the experimentation forces you to choose either flavor or quantity (as stated above) that is perfect balance. I recall running into a fellow cook ( I won't say chef as we were both Dom IV at the time) whose products all had better durations, though mine all had better effects. That, again, shows good balance. As for the buff time, use the finest ingredients in the galaxy, and don't settle for anything less than perfection, and you may be surprised at the results.
One thing that I am unhappy about with regard to the profession, however, is the lack of cooperation among chefs. Part of me would actually like to start a chef's guild, where we could all work together. Even though this may cost me clients, I'll tell why. I'd love to concentrate now on my blab biscuits, unfortunately, I cannot. In order to make them what I desire I need the perfect dough and two schematics for the perfect carbosyrup. These take time to make, and until they are finished, I cannot begin the experimentation to get that amazing or even great success with my two measley experimentation points. I try to stay ahead of it, but it isn't easy. After all, I do need to support myself, and I do like to make that amazing wastril bread for my CH friends (see above). The problem becomes... who do I know at Dom IV who would spend the time to make me the perfect dough, and the perfect carbosyrup. For now, I don't and I do it myself. Also, with the upper levels. I would craft the alcohol needed for any of you working on mixology in a heartbeat. A guild would help distribute the work needed. This does bring up another point. Another fix that could be made is factory UXP. Now, this is different than the 10%, I like the 10%. Our job should be spent experimenting, not doing industrial work.
Anyway, hopefully, I've expressed my thoughts, although they may be far from the norm. I know I will continue to rise slowly as my choice in product line has little bearing on the exp gain, which I'm sure also sets me apart from a lot of you on this board (not all). I've spoken my peace, I know most don't agree with me, so if you cannot control the urge, go on and flame.

I really don't think Wedding Cake SHOULD have buffs.
Commando: make sure you pick up plenty of wedding cake for our marksmen!
no... Wedding cake should be something buy for its conceived purpose, not as a buff.
Just my opinion
