Anyone out there a chef/BE? I have an alt who is master BH who I never play. Always playing my Fencer/Doc. I was thinking of doing this to make a little money but mostly to save money on all the food I purchase now.
BE bacause I have no BE friends atm and I would only use it for the Chef requirements.
Any opinions?

Chef/BE only gives you 37 more points. Here are the obvious ones that I know of.
Surveying
Merchant
A little more scout to get Mask Scent for Milking(You will probably also need it temporarily when you are getting sampling exp for the BE tree.
Using 11 points to get Formal Wear 1 for Trim.
You can't do all of those, so you have to pick which you want to do.

hmmm. i know you get the usage xp for chef foods if you yourself eat them. i wonder if you get the usage xp for BE tissues if you yourself make them.
i got BE on one char after i got chef on another. turns out that the usage xp you get for a chef turning your broad spectrum nutrients into additives is more than the BE gets for just making them in the first place. once i found that out, goodbye practice mode. and, it means you can get away with about half the resources you'd normally need for the BE craft grind. but, i was doing this on two separate chars, not 100% sure if you get the usage xp doing it yourself. i'd guess you would, since you do get it for eating your own soypro.
definitely worth trying if you do decide to go BE after you're already chef.

Kmad, there may be a couple things holding a chef/BE back from doing that.
1) I don't think you get usage xp from using your own components in a final item, at least with food. Putting tissues into an additive may be dealt with differently, though.
2) You apparently don't get any usage xp for factory-created items. So the BE would have to hand-make the tissues, and then the chef would hand-make the additive.
If only additives gave chef xp, you could probably get a pretty decent round-robin grind going.

i meant the suggestion for getting BE exp only, if he/she'd already mastered chef. i did hand-make all the tissues (they were the best bang for the resources anyway, the BSNs) just didn't use practice mode, then i had my chef hand-make each one into an additive with grind water. i had already mastered chef before my other char even started BE. i sure can't promise it would work on just one char tho.

My alt's template:
Master Chef
Master Bio-Engineer
Merchant 3-0-0-0
Artisan 0-4-4-2
With scout and medic requirements for BE... and the surveying for obvious reasons.I don't clone animals anymore, so I don't need mask scent. This has worked well for me, as I can have 2 vendors, though currently, I only use one hehe.

I am
Master chef
master BE
Tailor 0/0/1/0
Artisian 1/4/0/4
Scout 3/0/4/0
Medic 0/0/0/4
i have 1 extra skill point
allows me to make everything i need for chef and gies me enough mask scent to be able to DNA most animals. Works great as i don't ahve to pay the huge prices that some BE's charge for their components. i make them myself.

No matter what combat prof I go for I would have to buy meat for myself. This week alone I think I went through 200k meat.
