Thread: A couple of basic Chef questions I have never had answered
Most of my casual gamer focus has been on obtaining Master Chef, so I have not done a lot of experimenting with foods to figure this out for myself. I would like your opinions on the following questions:
1.
Ack I have no idea how that happened. Here are the questions:
1. Does the quality of component foods and drinks matter?
If I make dough, I can experiment on it but it has no statistics to show its properties. Likewise, I can use good or bad resources butnothing tells me whether it matters. Does the quality of the dough affect the properties of the foods I use it for in any way? Does it matter whether I experiment, or whether I use higher quality resources?
2. How do the properties of resources affect my foods and drinks?
I knowthe schematics say 33% on each of the properties (I think its Flavor, Overall Quality and Potential Energy if I remember), but it does not appear to me that anything but OQ has any effect on the final product. Can anyone tell me exactly how the various types of resource qualities affect foods and drinks? Also, what if a resource has no Flavor, for instance? What happens then?
Any information would be most appreciated.
1. For actual components (dough, carbosyrup, soypro, paste bread, alcholo, etc) my testing has shown an effect on the final product. Adding points to Flavor & Texture, Nutrition and (when available) Quantity does cause an increase in the same category of the finished item. The experimental percentages you see on the assembly screen are only based on the non-component resources, so if you get 10/15/20 with a non-experimented component you'll get 10/15/20 with the experimented. But the buff size, duration, and quantity (if the experimentation was high enough) will be higher.
I distinctly remember seeing stats on carbosyrup at one point shortly after release. They were something like "+10, 10s" on all stats, pretty much like thenon-action buffs on Air Cake. I think that components have these buff/duration additions that get added to the final product, zeroing out any that don't exist on the final product.Say you made a carbosyrup that internally was "+10, 10s" and another with "+12, 15s". Make two Blob Candies with them and the same type of fruit. Compared to the first Blob Candy, the second one would have an extra +2 Health and +2 Action, lasting an extra 5s duration.
There is at least one exception: Sunburn. This uses Starshine Surprise (a final product on its own) as a component, and I have never been able to make any changes to the final Sunburn by experimenting on the Starshine or using better cereal/mineral/gas. The duration/buff/quantity of the Sunburn is only affected by the Reactive Gas, probably just it's OQ.
Vegeparsine may also have this problem (since it uses 2 Veghashes as components), but I'm still working my way through the last 30k of Entrees IV, so I haven't tested this myself.
2. The schematics are dirty, dirty liars. Flavor and PE does have an effect, but the percentages are nowhere close. If you want a bit of a shock, look at the experimental percentages on Air Cake:
Experimental Flavor and Texture:
Action Duration: Flavor 50%, Overall Quality 25%, Potential Energy 25%
Filling: Unit Toughness 100%
Experimental Nutritional Value:
Action Effectiveness: Flavor 22%, Overall Quality 33%, Potential Energy 44%
Experimental Quantity:
Quantity: Overall Quality 100%
(note: I'm at work, so this is from a screen shot on swg.allakhazam.com, the one in-game may have changed, but I saw it matching at one point a couple of months ago).
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to really validate this since I'm not sure how much the component quality overrides or adds to the resource quality. But the 100% OQ on Quantity seems to be valid across other recipes. I made a Stewed Gwouch with 999 OQ water and 950ish OQ oatsand there were 10fillable bubblesin the quantity category (I was able to experiment them up to 12 doses, selling well as pet food).
As for how the experimental quality is calculated when not all the resources have the listed stat, that's a bit of a mystery. If you want to see some of my theories, check this post I did on the artisan board the other day.
