Thread: I realy wanted to be a chef...
By that time there were doctors in the game capable of buffing - and I just could not see the point in food buffs. Chef would not have the effect of allowing me to give anything usefull but my spices were life savers (and fun).
Big problems as I see it is that while food does aid in gaining combat skill:
a) not much even if you don't have other buffs
b) you need to eat frequently
c) if your food runs out and you don't notice (lag) then you can put yourself at risk.
d) who cares, its not like exp is dificult to get.
So basicaly chef needs a PvP benefit *and* it needs a roleplay benefit as there is no point having a boost to exp efficiecy (though it would be nice if there were knock on effects).
Next problem:
The class is fairly easy to grind and then stack up on enough BoH etc. to last you and everyone you know for a year. This is compounded by the Holocron effect.
The profitable buffs of the other two buffing classes involve interaction with the player. While people will cheefully do a profit / loss assesment on the cost of food they would not dream of anything less than a 2k tip for a single buff from a dancer.
The reason for this is that clearly you are paying for the entertainers time, similarly with a doctor as they drain their mind stat for 5 mins to give you your buffs.
I think that there needs to be a type of food that decays very quickly after it is made but provides a powerfull benefit for a long duration (if it is stat based then the other buffs need reducing or limiting). That would mean that people needed to interact with chefs, pay them high wages to spend time on the adventure planets, even bring them allong on extended hunting trips. The food should take the form of a meal kit that you deploy, it would manifest a graphic of a laid table which would then disapear, there would be several courses which would take time to apply. I think that there would be various types of this kit for various benefits (not just stat buffs but resists, skill mods etc.)
Furthermore there needs to be a Chef buff that is realy usefull in PvP. Either damage absorption, resists, skill increase or an instant heal or gives you light armour equivalent (wookie love and chef love in one handy instalment) for a minute. I'd love species specific foods or a single food that acted diferently on diferent species or similar.
Considering our food is a consumable good, there is no need for decay, and will only make people hate food more.

Hmm, the way I read that suggestion was not that the food we're creating now should have decay. Rather that there should be something we can create *in addition to what we make now* that gives exceptional bonuses above and beyond that of normal food, but which must be used very soon after it is made. You would only want to make them on demand, since they don't keep well. And unlike Doctor and Entertainer buffs, the client could wait until he's out in the field to eat the food and activate the buff. I imagine something like this might become popular with hunting parties and PvP raids. It's an interesting idea. The only problem I see is that it might end up stepping on the Doctors' and Entertainers' toes. Hopefully a balance pass on what we have will be enough to make the Chef class really viable. But if not, this is worth considering.
