Thread: New thought on XP and master...

Ok, well this idea is more for any master, but seeing as how chefs could use it more than any of the other professions...

when one reaches master of a profession, they have no more need/use for any of the xp that they earn from that point on...for combat professions this isn't so bad, since combat xp is common amongst a huge number of professions, and can be very useful when changing from one profession to another. However what does a master crafter do with all this xp....aside from medic, and scout there is no use for it at all.

so why not provide a usage for it...add a few new schems that require a certain amount of xp to craft, and don't give any back in return...or allow xp to be spent when experimenting on an item to increase the chances for getting amazing success...and reduce the chance of critical failure. armorsmiths should definately not get this, and neither should weaponsmiths...tailors...ummm why, be's...well no since tissues could get absolutely ridiculous, de's...depending on the outcome of their restructuring...maybe yes, maybe no. medics/doctors...they get enough as is. so that leaves chef.

we can't possibly abuse this all that much...most masters would shudder at the thought of having to grind even more, and its not like we get even decent xp for doing anything but grinding. armorsmiths are getting their nice new ris armor, most likely to help players be better tanks than pets...why make this part of an already functional, very powerful profession...fix chefs, and make this a role chefs fill, or when the devs get around to working on chefs...they'll find they have to nerf a bunch of other professions because they distributed the role chefs should be playing to several other professions, and all food will be good for is putting on armor, and feeding pets.

I like this idea, I do have an overflow of XP, that does nothing for me.

yeah, it shouldn't be hard to implement negative xp on crafting certain schems...and since they already have a method to check faction...the same can be applied to xp...so you have to have a minimum base amount, and it costs you another amount (maybe base 20k xp...consumes 100xp, or more depending on the item). The only thing to consider would be manufacturing schematics...maybe just not allow manufacturing schematics on those schems...but since they cost xp to make, and chef xp isn't possible except through grinding...they should be quite impressive...maybe like portable doctor buffs...but with only 1/2 the duration (1/2 - 1 hour would be very very nice...even if it only has 2 or 3 uses)

I'm glad you mentioned the RIS armor. I hope this type of quest is the type of thing they start adding for allcrafting professions. Engaging quests don't have to require combat skills, and the rewards don't have to be holos or money, or even a finished product. To me this would be more fun than using extra xp... but on to the actual topic of your post...

My only problem is that it will in fact introduce grinding back into the game. That was one of the things I was most relieved about as a master.I could make whatever I wanted. I could focus solely on my product and not my xp. But if there's a way to make a better product, and it requires xp, then I know I'll have to grind when I run out of extra xp, and I really don't think I'd be the only one.

Other than that, great! I've got a ton of entertainer healing xp doing nothing too. Can I do anything with that?

I wish they added more "puzzles" into the game, like it would be super cool if I got a missions where I had to go find someone, but when I get to there spot I dont find them, but I do spot a piece of paper on the ground, when read it says some cryptic message I have to figure out, after that say it's coordinates to a secret door, where i have to figure out how to open it and things like that. Its kind of like Myst or Riven, but for those of us that are non-combat it would be fun to do. I know I would jump at the chance to do it. Youcan even do them in groups, and work together to figure something out instead of kill it.
