Hello All:

Ive decided to end end my days as a WS/AS, and tossmy hat into the ring as a chef/arch. (the yearly shakeup)

I have the credits and harvestors to get going, but i could use some advice that I cant find in this forum, due to the broken search feature.

1. What are themost important resources, and how much is needed to get started?

2. How much milk do you really go through, and from what planet is it needed?

3. Do y'all have mask scent?

Im in the process of getting ready, but i want to get a head start on that which will take longest to prepare.

Thank you all for your time, and it would begreatly appreciatedif you can point meto a thread that has answered these questions.

If you haven't already, the FAQ has loads of good information. As to milk...there really isn't a specific planet that we need it from- its more just that we need large quantities. How much that is depends on what you plan on making. If your constantly pushing out Pikatta Pie, then your milk needs are going to skyrocket. Mask Scent is definitely something you'll want to pick up if you plan on getting the milk yourself, too. Hope that helped

Yes it did help, thank you.

Ive been through the stickies, but saw no reference to 'get lots of this resource' threads. (At least nothing post-CU)

The milk one is good news...some good stuff spawned on naboo, so I'll getmy scout over there post haste.

What resources do you find yourself going through the most?

Because our menus have now taken on a broader scope than just brandy, canape and ahrisa, our resource usage is a direct reflection. As I mentioned to another poster who was researching the profession, the best way to find out what resources you're going to need, is to first know which foods you're going to want to make. The best way to find out what foods you're going to make, is to go to as many chef vendors as possible (or perhaps just the very well known chefs) and make note of all the items on their menus. Once you decide what tickles your fancy, visit Swg Craft to look up the items and the resources that go into them. You can then get an idea which resources you'll need the most of for the particular menu you're gearing up to carry. Unless you have an amazing memory, write it down. It'll come in handy later when you're shopping/harvesting, trust me.

There isn't a totally cut and dry answer for this, as there is with, say, arch. "Load up on tons of ore," won't really cut it with chef. Start with the basics and then branch out into the more complex. In fact, you may even want to start with artisan foods to get a feel for the way food experimentation works, without having to procure many resources.

I am always curious, though, as to why people drop other longtime crafting professions for chef. It seems to be happening more and more lately, especially with the respec options available. I'm not grilling you, no pun intended, but what's the motivation behind the profession change? Did you not enjoy being an AS?

Almost any high quality flora will be useful to you. I am finding I can use berries in a lot of the different foods that I've been selling. For me elshandruu is a huge seller so if you have any neut steel sitting around that will be very useful (not sure about your server, but on kauri we were all struggling to get neut steel). What you'll need to decide is what foods are you going to start out with and then check what resources are needed, because honestly if its high quality flora you'll be able to use it somewhere

Tbh, my motivation is purely selfish in nature...i am bored with armor. Plus the fact that spending millions of credits, and hours and hours to harvest resources that are no longer of value has left me a little jaded. If I have to start from scratch, I'll try something new. I've made a good amount of cash with armor, and am proud to say I produced some of the best on the server, but the time has come for me to move on. Ive notified my steady customers, and referred them to those whom I feel are among the best A/S's in the server.

I bought myself 12 pt outfits for architect and chef, and sold my WS one (I'll keep the AS one because theyre harder to find)

I have compiled a list of that which I go thru most, food wise, and read up on thethreads that detail what sells the most. I have a pseudo-list of resourcesin hand, but I wanted to hear it from the pro's. You know what spawns less or more, and what I should aquire now, should I find it.

SWGCraft has been my companion, nay business partner, for a very long time, and has helped me earn tens of millions in resource speculating alone. I tip the surveyors every month. Props to Nilder, Choke and Carondac!

I plan on saving the respec token for when i truly need it. I did 28 profs for the jedi grind, and 20+ on three other toons, so grinding this will be easy.

Well I've rambled on long enough...Thanks all for your time and advice. (keep it coming )

I'd say it's best to look around at what other chefs on your server are making and decide what you'll have on your menu to start out with. From there you can figure out which specific resources you'll need. A lot of the stuff I make now are artisan foods which require more general resources like 'organic' or 'flora' etc. so the things I use in those slots may not be the same as what you use.

However, if you already have 3 billion credits, chef is fun if you have access to good BE tissues.

He's talking crap.

As a fairly new chef, i must say it takes quite an investment in time and credits btu very rewarding.

There is no 1 resource that you need but Milk is one of hte harder resources to get hold of. I'd recommend having good relations with Rangers/Scouts and Miners (if you don't intend to mine your own). I go through a lot of wheat but that is only because a lot of components require cereal and wheat is more common on the various vendors on my server.

I'd also start up a relationship with a good BE to get the best quality stuff at the best prices unless you intend to make your own in which case you will need some awesome meat which will cost you A LOT unless you intend to harvest it yourself.

Oh and good luck. Its a very rewarding profession.

Funny...I kinda did the same thing. I already had Chef with AS before the CU, but I dropped AS and took BE instead. I really miss how cool AS was though
