Thread: Your Top 3 Chef Issues
1. Increase our foods buffs to the scale of Doctors and smugglers.
2. Fix all schematics for foods. Some just don't work. This includes a way for us to get milk.
3. Give us a defining feature. No one can tell by looking at me that i am a chef.

Special chef clothes would be nice. Adding placeable cooking stations.(similar to how musicians can place an insturment in a cantina.) Chef and player emotes. I want to see people hold cups and eat food.
I'm going to agree with TrooperZ for the most part
1 - Increase the buff time. I don't think we need to match the docs but minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 would greatly improve the viability of food without making it too good.
2 - Fix the schematics - I am hoping (fingers crossed) that fixing what is missing would possible fill in the gaps where stats are not too helpful and/or missing.
3 - This is tough as I think those 2 would make all the difference in the world. The third would have to be a toss up with
A - Add something to allow people to better monitor the buffs, when they wear off and when they can eat/drink (this could include other professions buffs so the benefit would be to others as well as the chef profession)
OR
B - Give usa better way to monitor harvesters. I harvest on every planet and spend a ton of money just checking to see if the resource has shifted. I dont mind pumping in the cash and power to let it run unattended for 5 days. I do mind if I do this and the resource shifts the next day. I then not only waste the maintenance cost for the remaining 4 days, but more importantly I have a dead harvester. I need all mice running 24/7 to keep up with orders and I don't have a lot of customers yet.
Just a side not - I don't think the UXP is important at all. It really doesnt take long to reach master. I made it fairly easy. I play 2 hours or less a day. I did my "Grinding" as I ran harvester to harvester and waited for shuttles etc. and made it in no time.
1. Increase buff/duration or give us something unique to do
2. Fix broken schematics and broken Experimental issues
3. Still looking for milk....
4. Do not change UXP requirements.
1. Overall balancing of Chef. Most items fall below Smuggler Spice, even novice spice is superior in some areas, so are Domestic Arts foods. WE cannot compete with spice and doctor buffs. I also don't need 20 items that buff Mind, I'm sure we could afford to lose half the items, and still have a decent selection.
2. Bugged Experimentation.
2. Bugged Schematics. This falls into 2 categories :
21) Milk. It is not available in useable quantities if at all, therefore these schematics are bugged. Either give us milk, or change them to eggs. OK, we hear the items aren't that great, but we cannot make ~10 of our items, including 29.5% of master chef items,
2b) Double Dip Outer Rim Rumdrop doesn't load into the crafting tools
I'm also going to add a #4 :
4. Spices give an indication of when the buff runs out, why can't food ? The food & drink bars are not informative, and are not very representative of the actual "fullness"
while I'm at it ....
5. Graphical side.
5a. THe artistic side of food is very boring. There are no animations for eating or drinking, I cannot hold food or drink in my hands in a cantina.
5b, Why do most foods & drink place on the floor ? Were the artists on a picnic when they designed it ?
honestly, i just started, but the one problem i have is that i can't compete. we are a class completely devoted to making buffs, but i can't make anything to compete with spices and doc buffs.
other than that, all other issues are the same as above.
Let's get a current thread on your top three chef issues that you believe would make the profession far more playable. For me those are:
- UXP — Give more and make it work when you're signed off.
- Milk — Make it a scout-harvestable resource, like hide, bone, and meat. Not entirely realistic to harvest milk off a corpse but at least it's a workable solution.
- HAM bonuses — Improve and redistribute stat bonuses.
1. Increase the HAM bonuses so we can compete with the Doctor and Spice buffs
2. Fix the bugged schematics
3. Some chef type clothing would be great, a chefs hat, bartenders outfit, anything.
- increase food duration and stat modifiers (maybe just x2 or x1.5)
- diversification of food types (we don't need 200 items that all buff the same stuff (ie stats) we need to be able to buff EVERYTHING in the game (ie skills, etc.)
- a real alcohol (ala EQ) complete with beer googles (for all the money lost on social RPers in all the cantinas!!!)
- give us more variety of graphic images for our food (is that a ryshcate or a wastril bread?)
and then some less serious ones...
- give all master chefs a FSCS (stolen from someone else, somewhere else)
- give us special combat moves (docs and smuggler have important combat skills (healing and special combat moves))
1. Experimentation consistency: Sometimes I'll get a 'success' message with no change, or negative change. Or a 'failure' message with no change, or positive change. In cases like Corellian Brandy for example (+action buff, -mind buff) experimenting successfully on duration will increase both values, meaning a larger value for the negative buff.
2. Chef buff balancing: Our foods are worthless compared to Doctor buffs and spice. Even compared to Domestic Arts foods! Making a distinction between spice and food would be nice too. I'm tired of being asked for Muon Gold. Please do not change doc buffs or spice, just change the food system (dom arts & chef foods)as it stands. I think the spice and doc buff systems look fine. I don't wish for chef foods to stay the same with a nerf for dom arts or any other buffs... Just make us useful!! Let me be able to feel good about putting a price to something I make! Oh! And giving FOOD XP from Dom arts foods (So starshine surprise, dough, carbosyrup will all add to food crafting xp)
3. Graphics: Adding new pictures for foods would be great. Also an animation for eating or drinking would be nice. It wouldn't have to be out when you're in the field using them for the buff value, it could just be when you're in a cantina. Chef hats or aprons would be nice. (I've seen the chef trainer NPC with an apron...thats not funny...)
I just got Mixology II and am very disappointed with the buffs they offer. But I can't say that I was surprised by that. Perhaps I was most displeasedwith the lack of graphics. Everything looks like Starshine Surprise... I'm taking my time getting through the skill tree, trying to have fun as I go instead of grinding. Seeing the same pictures as rewards is a big let down however...
Time to go play something fun...Like Jedi Academy ![]()

1. Non-Working Schematics and Overall Balance
We all know Tatooine Sunburn shouldn't be in Mix II, and that the master schematics need to me more in line with it, with increased durations to rival our docs and smugglers. Milk is part of this to fix the schematics that don't work. Some component qualities don't seem to matter in experimentation, and experimentation itself is still whacky.
2. Filling and duration is borked.
This goes in line with the balance issue of course, but to be more specific, the way food fills you up, and how long it lasts. (The comments about it not displaying messages is part of this) Right now, lower end foods only last a few minutes, and you can eat a few of them. Master Foods last just a little bit longer, and you can only eat one.
i.e., You can make a charde with about a 130 Mind bonus at Novice Chef. You can also make a Angerian Fishak Surprise at Master Chef which can give a 420-450 Mind bonus, lasting 10 Minutes. These are also far more expensive than Charde. The problem with the difference is, you can down 3 of the Charde, for a 390 bonus, which lasts about five minutes, and can consume another after the five minutes (the filling effects have worn off), the Fishak....you can eat one. It lasts ten minutes, provides a slightly better buff, and sometimes once the buff wears off, you cannot drink another because you're still full.
That is just an example. There's TONS of other food/drink schema that work this way. IMO The upper end buffs should be LESS filling, and last longer than they do. The novice stuff should be the stuff that fills your belly fast. (Top Ramen Noodles anyone? =P)Either that, or find ANOTHER way to balance out the usage of the food, because right now, it's not right.
3. Define the Chef
Yea, give us visual definitions. Let us declare an establishment manned like a dancer or musician. (if we're serving drinks...its MANNED!) Let scouts or merchants build us bars or food tents we can plop down in cities. Give us some silly combat moves that dont really do much, but are for visual fun. (Bonked with a skillet, hit with a pie, squirted with a seltzer, poisoned by bad wastril bread, etc.) Give us the chef hats, aprons, oven mitts...the works. A big problem is the ability to display our foods. I drop everything in my house that I sell as a display. This dosen't leave much room for furniture and such once the entire menu is displayed. A panel that guests could click on that displays a menu WE type in would be a MUCH better solution, and allow us to spice up our cantinas. (vendors are not a viable menu option, unless you find a better way to display our sold items in them, yet it still dosent help if we're in a city cantina) Give us a way to make a 'packaged meal' of some kind! (Think Fireworks show, but for using a food and a drink in one double click)
Some of this is just repeating what I've read, and found to be most problematic in my gaming experience. I know there's more of us that feel this way too that never see the forums. I was just about to come and make a biggo post about filling and duration, but this is a good outlet =-)
1. Increase Duration, Decrease Digestion – It takes me 2 days to Digest steak, or red meat. Why should it take off all my points at once rather than over time?
2. Make a milk substitute, like soy or a vegetable concentrate.
3. Improve HAM bonus with higher stats as the food gets harder to manufacture, thus making better food more exquisite, expensive, and intriguing.
I also think that the chef should be able to make his own variations of food as a dynamic database and not just rename food that is already available. The chef is the most creative of all the professions, and should have the largest database of items.
1. Liberate the milk
2. Liberate the milk
3. Liberate the milk
Ive said my piece.
