Thread: Last post closed due to flaming so reposting information with non-flammatory info
Alrighty, last post got closed because I used the word "whiner", I'm assuming so I won't use whining and whiners can go flame somewhere else. ![]()
First, I love being a chef. That was the gist of the original post but I guess its flaming if you post anything more detailed than that.
Second, food and drinks are considered more important than doctor buffs and spice as evidenced by amounts paid for food/drink vs other things. I'd explain that but it might be considered flaming.
Third, although the chef profession has some problems, the chefs not making wads of credits are broken, not the class. Just made 2.1 million credits this week. Instead of complaining(ha, didn't say whining) about how a chef can't make a living or denouncing this post, I think you should be asking,"how?" If you want to be successful and you're not, then you're doing something very wrong. There's alot of chefs out there that will probably explain the basics to making credits as a chef; maybe if you ask instead of berate, this thread could be educational.
I, personally, recommend the following: First, get to master chef; anything under it is a waste of time. I think it took me 2 or 3 days and about a million credits worth of materials to grind up to it. Getting started is the hardest part. Second, make a detailed menu which includes item names, general stats, and prices per stack and per crate, then mail it to yourself. Go to your friend's list and select all, then hit mail and write the whole menu a second time sending it to all your friends. Now, everytime you see a Master Doctor, Master Creature Handler, Master Bounty Hunter, Master Commando then go to mail, pick the menu in your mail and forward it to that person; you don't have to talk to them, you don't have to shout your wares(waste of time). This works especially well when waiting for a shuttle or ship in the starport. For the most part, your customers will be pvp related people that are masters in their profession and willing to do anything for an edge over their enemies. These types of people will buy food and drinks by the crates; I almost never sell any stacks off my vendor, everyone wants crates.
Now, here's some other tips, don't buy meat off the bazaar or collect it yourself; you don't have the time. When you see a master meat harvester type, then tell them you'll buy whatever they have on them for 6 credits per peice; then offer to buy more at the same price for carnivore, insect and domestic meats. Any self respecting chef will have half a dozen meat harvesters working for them.
Another tip would be what you sell, people love the following food and drinks: Breath of Heaven, 80k a crate. Angerian Fishak Surprise, 50k a crate. Versupti, 28k a crate. Bivoli, 22k a crate. Corellian Fried Ice Cream, 22k a crate. People will buy these items over and over and over, so make them and put them on your menu.
Last tip is lots you use: I'm stuck with a medium house on my lot count. I can't redeed it under a friend's lot count because it has two npc vendors that charge 1 credit per hour regardless of what's put on the vendor and I gave up merchant for another class(master doctor). So, if I give up the house, I give up the vendors. Not going to happen. I use 5 factories; you can find someone in your guild to let you use their lots for your factories, or you can find someone on another server to trade you lots. So, I have 8 free lots; since I make 2 million a week off of food/drinks, its less than a week's earnings to buy heavy harvesters, so buy them. Lastly, power harvesters; I buy my power for half a credits per power from my guild but if you need to get your own power then buy a fusion harvester because its much better than wind or solar since it lets you harvest radioactive material...I find it extremely nice to be able to use the same type of material for either power or a component to making drinks.
Good luck playing the biggest most rewarding credit making class in the game.
LOL ok let me get this straight, Its really easy to make tons of money as a chef if
A. You apparently have the ability to buy over 1 million credits worth of resources up front.
B. Have no life and able to spend 3 straight days grinding for hours on end ruining the fun of getting to Master.
C. Belong to a huge guild with massive financial backing
D. Have enough people willing to give you 40 lots or being so insanely rich beforehand that you can buy them.
E. Use exploits in the Merchant line to get vendors and then drop the skills.
Wow that is easy! Come on over to my server give me 2 million credits and 40 lots and Ill get right on that after i quit my job!
Your post is still rude and unnecessary, and ALL of the advice you give assumes that this start chef has millions of credits, and most chef's starting out, unless backed by a huge PA does not have those kind of means.
To give you some credit the Buying meat suggestion very helpful.
The list of popular items to crate produce. Very helpful.
Thank you for those.
Also i would just like to say that I do just fine as a chef money wise. Ive got about 600k in the bank just from selling the foods and drink i can make at 2/0/2/2.
Most chefs arnt concered about the money so much as the fact that half of our schematics either just dont work, are useless or require components that arnt really in game. That and the rampent bugs that make people want to not even bother with food.
I love being a chef, and a musician and a merchant! But with the flaws in the profession and the bugs that are persistant with us I can see where alot of chefs are very frustrated including myself.
Also alot of people that take up chef also dont have Offensive skills such as myself. Getting the financial resources to get off the group is a long road when you cant do kill missions.

Hmm, don't know about that. This is very strange of me to come to this board instead of playing the game. That's most likely a big difference between the successful chef and the poor chef. A successful chef spends her time playing the game.
Never said I wasn't successful...
and you are still being rude.
Sineath, I think you need to take a hint from the fact that your last post was the first locked thread I've ever seen on the Chef boards.
You can make money, good for you. So could I. I, however, got sick of doing the following:
1. Buy power (since a person with 10 lots has to conserve).
2. Run to harvesters
(sometimes: 2b. Run to harvesters, find that resource has shifted, spend several hours trying to find a new spot to place harvester.)
3. Go back to house to make schematics.
4. Put schematics in factories, along with ingreds and power/maint
5. Spend hours trying to advertise on the boards and in major cities without spam /shouting or spam emails
6. Wash, rinse, repeat.
All to make THE SAME 5 THINGS. Now granted, you can say the same about armorsmiths (and weaponsmiths to a degree), but that's about all the schematics that they have. It's about 4% of the things that I could make.
Not to mention the food stack bug, the fact that I went to Master during the time when personal floras were the largest that I could have, factories not working right until at least a month after I made Master, etc.
Foods are not more important than doc buffs and spices due to the price. The price reflects the resources put in and the desired return for the player making them. Smugglers make enough money, through combat missions and slicing weapons and armor, that they don't have to worry about making a large profit on their items. Docs can also sell stims, and they still make a decent profit from providing enhancements.
Side note. I was hunting on Lok one time (with my novice pistoleer skill and no boxes in it)(I was getting wooly hide for a friend)and a doc was advertising enhancements, 5k for all 6 stats, so I gave it a try. It was so much unbelievably better than any of my food could ever be. I was buffed by outrageous amounts, and I didn't have to worry about eating/drinking 5 different things, each as they wore off.
Don't forget, Dancers and Musicians are soon going to be able to provide their stat-doubling buffs to the mind pool that last for an hour or more... with 5 minutes of listening/watching. /sigh.
Now please go away. I don't really care for the tone of your posts, and apparently no one else does either. Thank you.
Well, I have to agree with the original poster that selling food and such isn't completely dead. I also have sold over 1.5 million in food over the weekend. I buy resources from people who sell them and I also have my own. My friend who is a Master Doctor and I share harvesters. It works out well. I have merchant skills too. And when I started out as a chef, I didn't have tons of money. It took me a while to build up funds and then as I went through the Chef levels I made some money that all went right back into skilling up. After getting a solid customer base and selling foods, I bought large flora harvesters and started to stock up on materials and started selling foods for a decent profit, which is NOT what I see some people selling for.
You too can make it as a chef and not struggle so long as you stop selling foods for 3-6 cpr. I use that chef price listing on the Chef website and I charge per use/dose.
Heh you can make millions selling crafting tools on the bazaar too....but how much fun is that.
Point? If all I wanted was millions, I'd play a Weaponsmith.
