Chef Archive

With the recent patch, the entire chef profession received a MAJOR overhall. Many of you are probably wondering where your favorite food and drinks went. Well, most, if not all of them are completely gone. BUT, this isn't a bad thing. The changes to chef have made the class more viable, with chefs finally being able to utilize the complete list of chef recipies.

So what does this mean to you? Well, now not only can you find food that buffs your HAM bars, but you can also find food that gives you a bonus to defense, offense, damage reduction. resists vs disease and poison, defense vs dizzy/knockdown, bonuses to creature harvesting, terrain negotiation, bonus to xp gained for combat, reduction to your incap timers and more! Most of the foods and drinks can be enhanced now as well with Bio Engineer additives. This does have an effect on the cost of food as the additives are costly for BE's to make. But the benefit is great. The additives allow chefs to enhance 1 of 4 factors of a piece of food. We can enhance either the filling which determines how filling a food will be, flavor which determines how long the buff will last, nutrition which determines how large the buff is, and lastly quantity which determines how many items are per a stack. Now, some items cannot take an enhancement at all and some cannot be enhanced for quantity, but those are just a handfull of foods. If you refer to the website posted above, you will find a link at the top of the page which will bring you to a spreadsheet of the new chef buffs listed by skill and on that page it lists if a food can take an additive or not. Light, medium and heavy just refer to what the max additive is that can be added. If it says medium, then this food or drink can take any of the medium additives or any of the light additives. Just a point, each can only take one additive though. We cannot use a Bio Engineered additive for both flavor and filling, it's one or the other.

So as you can see, the changes to chef are very beneficial. Better foods, bigger buffs, longer buffs. Something to note though: When buying food, be sure to check the stats before you buy it. The new foods have the same name as the old foods and if you are looking to buy the new stuff and it turned out to be not something you wanted, well that's no good. On my vendors, I have completely removed all old foods that are no longer available to be made and placed them on a seperate vendor to avoid any confusion. And I also label my food so that the buff can be easily recognized. IE: "Exo-Protien Wafters 17% damage reduction" right there on the name of the food. It's easier for you and for me.

Two things to note that need fixing with this patch: Barrels currently do not work so we cannot craft drinks in them yet. Also, the stomach was supposed to be patched to empty over a 30 minute period of time, but was instead patched to be 45 minutes.

By the way, the new Fishak is Vasarien Brandy which is about 225 mind/focus/willpower for 34 minutes with a filling of 49, which means you can drink two. OR you can find some that has been bio enhanced for 400+ to mind/focus/willpower for 34+ minutes with a filling of around 49 (you want it less than 50) and you can drink two for a buff that is over 800 to mind/focus/willpower!!
