I'm sure some of you have played other crafting professions at one point in time or another. I'm just curious as to how chef compares to the other crafting professions in terms of difficulty when it comes to gathering resources, keeping vendors stocked, and producing quality product.

Well, for me, it's a little harder than architect in the respect that we have to get the quality just right. Architects only really have to worry about functional quality on harvesters, everything else they can use the crappiest resources and still get the same product. It's much easier than doctor though. Our components don't always count toward our final product, but their's do all the time and in great degrees of difference.

I've found it be a breeze compared to the pure bio-engineer I used to be. Food runs fast in factories, taking 30 seconds to move subcomponents from the output hopper to the input hopper isn't much of a chore, demand is high, and almost all of the resources are machine harvested. If I were just a chef, it'd be a little harder though it's pretty easy to find a bio-engineer if you treat them right.

It all depends on how much you do yourself and how much food you produce. I was a master BE, master chef and tailor (3 accounts) so I produced all my own BE additives, trim and food. I bought meat, power and gemstones and harvested all my own flora, water and other resources. Before I retired 2 weeks ago I was selling between 200 and 250 crates of food/drink per week from 1 location. It was very financially rewarding and a hell of a lot of work. I probably played 30+ hours a week doing nothing but chef related activities.

Before I turned to Chef I spent quite a bit of time as a Weaponsmith and an Armorsmith and I tell you that Chef is absolutely easier than both of those professions strictly because of the resources requirements. Chef requires very few named resources, at least for the most popular foods, so it's fairly easy to get a good start in the profession.
With weaponsmith there are 40-50 named resources, which will take a minimum of a couple of months to collect and who knows what the quality will be like. Armorsmith doesn't take as many named resources as Weaponsmith but there are still quite a few. In my opinion, it's the named resource requirements that make those professions hard. The hardest thing about Chef is relying on BE's but there are many strategies to minimize this pain.

The hardest thing for me has been vendors. A full run of food gives me 40 items to sell. I realize those tend to be expensive items. Many foods I'm making nonstop. Armorsmith I believe is very close to this. Weaponsmith I'm not sure on. With 15 factories I would just expect I could make enough weapons to be able to not craft for a week or so.
Thats the same with any consumeables though. A friend of mine makes buffs and when he puts a run on his vendors he is starting a new one in his factories right away.
No named resources do help though. After 3-4 months in chef I probably have as good of resources as someone starting at day 1. 10 different ones of each resources every 10-14 days helps a lot. I only get annoyed when there is absolute crap out there to harvest.

Compared to Armoursmith, Chef is an absolute doddle. As has already been said, named resources make the task SO SO much harder. However profits as an AS were higher.
