You basically need the following to do everything yourself
Master Chef Duh
Master BE
Formal Wear 1 in Tailor
Some form of merchant to sell items. You can get the vendor and drop it, but don't be suprised when in a month or 2 you aren't able to use it anymore. Vendors will be revamped, its just a matter of time.
Surveying is last. You can already survey with novice artisan, I honestly wouldn't go any lower than Surveying 3 though and level 4 helps a lot.
There isn't enough skill points for all those though so something has to go. Obviously your choice what needs to go. Realize this gives you absolutelyno combat abilities.

Actually, you can do it.
If you go:
Artisan 0/4/3/4 (That will get you 1 vendor and all the surveying levels.)
Master Chef
Master BE
Tailor 0/0/1/0
You will have 3 skill points left!! You could put two in Tinkering, to get you an extra point for artisan foods, or in Exploration I, so you can walk up those hills a little quicker.
No combat skills, though. Not a one.

I used the character builder available at

Advertising 3 I think is a very good skill for chefs starting out. This will do more advertising than you could ever do on the forums.
Its not required but its a lot easier than postings ads on the forums every day and spamming your waypoint to your vendor.

Very good point. Being on the world map is very important, especially now that the population in the Non-player cities has decreased.
Back in the day, you could steer lots of business with a vendor close to town and a posting on the bazaar listing your WP. Not anymore.
One good way of getting around that would be to join a big mall that already gets lots of traffic.
Unfortunately, you don't have enough points to do the Self Sustaining Chef route AND have Advertising III.

Good point up above....don't forget to run up merchant a little bit so that you can have vendors and advertise on the planetary map. Good luck!
