Thread: What is the best way to SELL food??
Hi
I've become quite successful as a chef in terms of resources aquired and things being built
I have two factories and sell three main products:
crates of Tatooine Sunburns for 53k (25 stacks of 77)
crates of pet food (wastril bread) for 10k (25 stacks of 5)
and power for 2cr per unit
I'm having trouble recently selling things. I suspect my prices are a little high, but i keep going over the numbers and this seems to be where they point. I really haven't met any other chefs on Bria server to compare with. Also the main way i sell things is to sit by the bank in Bestine and spamspamspam until i get a /tell. First, i don't like spamming and i hate it when others do it. Second, if i don't spam, how are others to know what's for sale? I am part of a PA that has set up a city north of Anchorhead, but people rarely visit my vendor there. What is the Best way to sell items? I need the cash for maintence and stuff.
I'm not on Bria, but those prices are high (assuming you meant 25 stacks of 7, not 77, for sunburn). On Naritus, I sell Tat Sunburn crates 25 stacks of 7 for 37-40k, depending on who it is, and pet food (blob candy) for 8-9k in stacks of 9.
I've found that going into several cities and broadcasting your prices is a good way to go. The cheapest way to do this is to take shuttles to shuttleports on the same planet. Also, it helps to develop relationships with repeat customers, as they will be the majority of your business. A good 75% of the population cannot afford or are unwilling to purchase crates of sunburn - break up a crate every so often and throw individual stacks on the bazaar. Selling on the bazaar also gives you a an opportunity to advertise - in the item description, mention you sell the item in bulk, and give the waypoint to your PA's vendors.Give out free samples - you'd be surprised how many people simply don't know what food does.
Power for 2cr/unit is actually pretty cheap.
I have trouble selling high priced bulk crates on vendors as well. I think there are several factors that come into play here... First, few people consider food buffs worth *that much money*due to duration. Second, not everyone knows how the secondary stats really work... They don't immediately see thier HAM bar skyrocket up when they down a Sunburn, so they assume it did nothing. And third, there is no way to tell how many charges the items within a crate have. All you can see as a consumer is 'a crate of 25 Tatooine Sunburn'. You and I know that there are 5 charges or something per drink (bringing the total to 125) but the buyer probably doesn't.
By far, the most profit I make is hanging out in a cantina and handing out drinks for free. The tips I make normally exceed the price tag I would have put on the drink in the bazaar! Not only that, but you get a big following of people who recognise you, understand your product better, and go out of thier way to visit your vendor.
Oh, and oddly, the only times I have sold factory crates of food/drinks has been to patrons of the cantina who ask me for them directly.

im a chef on bria too. i can actually become a master if i get more apprentice pts. people on our server simply dont buy food. the only food that occationally sells are some foods i had on the bazaar, but even then it sells extremely slowly. maybe because so much money goes into weapons on our server(weapons on our server are 10k-40k a piece) i dunno. people on our server tend to be pretty cheap and basically they dont eat.
until they dramatically improve foods by giving them a longer duration or something i dont expect to make much money off foods. most of my income comes from selling stim packs. i usually price my food at 50k a crate and 3k single stacks. the foods i massed are based on their stats and cost of making. my ryshcakes are +300/340s/12 charges. my tat sunburns are 1696/369s/15. my tertier noodles are 130/300s/7
I think once PvP develops more you guys will all get more sales, currently people are not totaly into the 'Tweaking' phase of the game, once people start looking for every possible advantage, food will play a crucial roll. My guild has a Chef bot for this very reason. 2k substats can make a world of difference especialy when complimented by Doctor Buffs + Spice you basicly become an insane PvP monster =P
As it is now tho, food is not widly understood, and is very underestimated by the majority of people.
wow - your prices are very high, but maybe that's fine on your server..
I am selling crates of TS (+1815 w/ 6-7 uses) for 32k
crates of pet food (225 - 250 total uses 25*11 or 12) go for 8-10k depending on the city it is being sold in.
BoHs sell for 300 per charge.
Ryshcate for 200 per charge.
7 use Ice Blasters for 1000.
At these prices I do fairly well. And these are pretty low prices too. At least I think so.

Wow, BoH for 300 cr per use ? It can use up to 270 resources if you use Pu36 and it takes ages for a crate, so unless you get 5+ uses per stack you are badly off.
I've never spammed people about my food. I play on Shadowfire since it started, and in the early days I put food on the bazaar. I branded every item with vendor coords and tried to keep my store filled. Plus I sell quality weapon power ups of all kinds and spices, so while you are there, why not buy some Ryshcate ?
I barely use the bazaar nowadays (too busy hunting resources), and I never stood in a cantina for long; too bad that (Jawa) _Beer_ uses precious and "rare" hides; maybe I did if I could supply people with the most-requested beer.
I tried to educate and inform people ("Does your weapon's mind cost kill you faster than the enemy ?") and gave away free samples, too (of the top stuff course; +50 for 200 seconds is a joke and kinda hurts your business). It doesn't help getting those "I don't eat." to eat, but a new customer is born every minute. They just don't know yet.
If you don't mind me asking, how many sunburns can you put in a crate? 100? So you are charging 32k for 100 sunburns? (newbie chef here)

I don't know how you make your BoHs, but mine are made with well experimented pu36's using top quality ingrediants. I always get stacks of 15, which is why I don't mind charging 300 per charge.
And for the other guy - all crates come out with 25 items.
A stack of Sunburn can have 9 uses at best, so 25*9 = 225 uses per crate is max.
