Thread: new strategy to get the devs to work on chefs...
so lets examine chefs:
1) we can buff every stat, and you can take those buffs with you to use...so can smugglers.
2) our products have no side effects, neither do doctor or scout buffs.
name 1 thing that a chef can do that a scout, doctor, or smuggler can't...I can't think of anything, other than getting really annoyed by this fact.
Perhaps instead of asking for chefs to be fixed, we should all complain that chefs aren't unique, and maybe we'll get the same treatment as rangers.
Now this kinda just popped into my head but I think we need to remember that food/drink buffs affect every class in the game. The Devs will probably wait to get many of the major bugs sorted with the main classes (especially combat) and then see how they perform against one another in PvP BEFORE looking at our recipes. Then and only then can they do a proper job of looking at chef buffs to ensure that they fit into the SWG universe in the rightplace with the correct buff strength and duration. If they do a hack job now and then they make some corrections to our main customer classes and have to REbalance our foods just think about how pissed off that would make us.
So perhaps they are not brushing us off (although hat is a possiblility) but maybe there is a plan to the madness. I just hope it diesn't take too long. We have lost too many of our number already......
Keep on chefin'
my point is that they spent enourmous amounts of time on the ranger class...they even made it their top priority for several weeks, and made it publicly known that they were doing this. why shouldn't we get the same treatment for the same circumstance?
Braqsus is right. The fact that chef foods aren't a part of the balance of the game because the directly influence all professions equally (and this assumes that chef isn't a "primary" class, only a support class) means that the devs will probably do major fixes on all the primary classes first so that there is a pvp balance (good luck!) and an equal oportunity to level with each profession.
I still put chef priorities in the six month window. While I personally think that this is unacceptable (a little biased), chefs will continue to lag in buff importance from doctors/scouts and smugglers. I think the devs are just way too afraid to "fix" chefs without doing a full look at it, because they might break it more (i.e. commandos)

What's a scout buff? Never heard of this?
Scouts can forage for foods that are on par with spices but with no bad after effects (making them better than chef foods). Most people don't include them in the whole balance issue because the forage command is pretty random, they turn up a lot of junk in the process, and you can't produce quantities of an item.

Scouts can "forage" for items that commonly have buffs. These are single use items like spices, but don't have a down time. Check the food category in the bazaar for things like "jar of onions", "bunch of fungus"or something for example.
As for changing the chef buffs unbalancing the other classes, I wonder ifthat really needs to be a large concern. They seem to tread most carefully regarding PvP balance. For things like commandos, yes changing their skills shifts that classes power relative to the others and can go too far. But our foods are something that can be used equally by anyone. Now if they added something like "+2000H/A/M, +1000 Con/Stam/Will 600s", then PvE would get seriously out of whack, so I agree that some caution should be used.
