Well I have two accounts both unlocked, so 4 chars. My chef char is taking up shipwright, master artisan with some merchant. He is also going to be loaded up with tents and factories on his lots and not allowed to leave the city.

My other and orginial account, the 'Miner' is getting 4400 Force defender for a higher CL,jedi innatearmor and melee/range defenses. I looked at maybe a novice combat profession to wear armor, but the 4400 defender was fewer skill points with better defenses, higher CL (the real important one) and innate Jedi armor. On top of that I am going master armorsmith, master DE with 4042 artisan. I have force sensitive surveying plus the +25 from BE survey tissues to give me +100 survey. The armorsmith and DE is of course a nice combo for the death watch bunker.

My newest one, I just unlocked on my main last week, is an Ithorian master BE, master CH, master scout, ranger 0010 and force sensitive experimentation line (got to love double exp week ). Still need to finish grinding/respecting this one out. Good for making stims and buffs(the new food as it were) and fulfilling the local pet needs.

My last one is my pet wookiee, master defender, master swordsman, 4000 healer. Still respecting this out, but looks to be a fun character to take along on guild hunts. Awsome tank but lacks the accuracy to really dish it out like most pure melee swordsman. The added melee defenses and healing though would make him very hard to kill. Now if the bounty hunters would just leave me alone...

So umm, that is what I am pairing with chef.

Only one account here, but I am still sticking with my chef/merchant/dancer, regardless of how functional the professions are right now.

I've always tried to keep my character with more of a "jack of all trades" skill set, rotating various stuff around my core Master chef + 3000 Merchant (although I'm getting more tempted to drop Advertising since customers are using the bazaar search more). Throw in Scout 2040 for hunting and mask scent and a combat prof, and I'm usually good.

Of course, I've never really progressed that far through combat professions, so I really don't have much to compare to. I've gotten halfway through fencer, halfway through pistoleer, and am now currently halfway through TK. Any other chefs switch between crafting, hunting, and "just for fun" combat? What seems to be a good solo choice? I'm liking the unarmored TK approach so far (my TC5 toon was kicking butt in full chef outfit), but having a prof focused on tanking seems a little wasteful when I'm mainly going solo. On the other hand, it does seem to match my normal combat strategy of "stand there and trade attacks until one side falls".

I focus almost exclusively on PvE, usually against critters for the meat/hide/bone (unless I need to clear something away from a harvester spot). I like melee more than ranged, and only have the spare skill points for a normal elite prof (can't really do a hybrid like smuggler or CM). Is swords any good? Pikeman is probably less useful for a soloist, although it looks like it's area attacks and debuffs may come in handy.

Pre-CU:

Master Chef, Master 2H, 4444 Artisan, Merchant 0002, and Force Crafting 4400. It was a very fun template.

Post-CU:

I can no longer have the same template because of the additional skillpoint requirements for combat professions (/dissapointed.) I respec'd to a couple of profs, TKM, Rifle, Fencer, 2H and have found that I am no longer as effective in combat as I was before.

Realizing that in order to be truely effective in combat I need to be a "Double Master" or some common iteration, I have decided on the following template (mostly because I don't want to give up the force crafting for some combat stuff.)

Master Chef, Artisan 4444, BE 0404, Merchant 0002, Force Crafting 4400
