Did a little testing over the last week trying out various foods. I was not very pleased with the results. I tested Piketta pie and vegaspine(sp) the melee defense food .. and neither one gave me any real effect on damage reduction/avoidance/miss ratio/etc. Have the dev's mentioned anything at all about this?

my jedi with 224 melee defense vs a lvl 80 critter:
no buffs: 124 hits, 26 misses (17.1%)
with pikatta: 335 hits, 97 misses (22.5%), dmg reduced by 6.5%
with vegeparsine: 81 hits, 35 misses (30.2%
), no dmg reduction
with both: 191 hits, 49 misses (20.4%)
either my math is broke or something's fishy. perhaps vege and pikatta don't stack with each other... i took the pikatta first, waited until there was about 10 min left on it, then took the vege and recorded every hit/miss until both had worn off completely. i'm thinkin' maybe the vege wouldn't function at all until the pikatta had gone away, since there was such a drastic increase in hits/misses. then again, vegeparsine alone was the one i tested for the least # of hits, so the error is gonna be higher. still, though, i spent a good 5 minutes standing still letting a little quenker hit me without any auras or any attempts to fight back.

Zombi: I heard a rumor that the defense buffs aren't "recalculated" unless you swap weapons (say from saber to a CDEF and back). Since defense changes depending on your weapon (because of the "+pistol melee defense", etc), this refreshes the value properly. Maybe that had something to do with your vegeparsine testing?

maybe, i'm going to try to redo the test tomorrow. barring bh incidents, i should have a clearer idea of how the vege's working. i'll put on the vege solo and let something hit me for its entire 18min duration

OK, so in case anyone's interested,I did it again. Spent roughly 15 minutes with each trial, let the critter hit me 400+ times.
With Vegeparsine: 335 hits, 66 misses (16.46% misses)
Without Vegeparsine: 354 hits, 65 misses (15.41% misses)
Now, my Jedi's got some 216 melee defense, 316 with the vegeparsine. Maybe this is accurate and the diminishing returns on melee defense are only gonna give you another 1% misses. Also, I forgot to unequip and re-equip my saber between the 1st and 2nd trials. It's possible that since I didn't do that, the melee defense never got recalculated, and the stupid vege didn't really stop affecting me. If I get time tomorrow, I'll try yet another run of vege-less testing. It's kinda tough to stay in one place letting something hit my Jedi for 15 minutes tho, if you know what I mean

Great stuff, keep the numbers coming.
I thought that melee defense now just acted as a damage reduction and had nothing to do with missing anymore? Some kind of stealth nerf by the trixie, trixie devsies (or maybe they told us they did it, I forget).
If it is damage reduction, wouldn't you see it automatically uponeating and switching weapons........unless of course there was a law of diminishing returns jsut like the Armor Nerf.

no difference in dmg taken whatsoever from the vegeparsine. the pikatta i tested (as shown above) did reduce the dmg i took

Ive been doing tests this week as well. Bottom line: Vegeparsine doesnt seem to do a damn thing. LOL.
On another note, neither do the Ranged Def/Melee Def BE clothes. On, off, doesnt matter.
Either the Ranged and Melee defense system is not really working at all, or its on such a miniscule scale that it really isnt possible to affect any real result with food or clothing mods.
I am hoping this gets fixed, and I am continuing to test...but for the time being I wont be wasting stomach on Vegeparsine.

I should also clarify that I only test in PvP setups because I can completely control the environment with a friend hitting me with the same hit over and over again under a number of different circumstances. PvE seems like it would be a nightmare to test under, since NPCs and mobs often vary their attacks.

Did anyone do a test with a very CL toon, ie very low defense mods? This would tell us if the food is truly broken or if there is a law of diminishing returns at work.

will try later on; my lvl 15 chef vs. a lvl 15 critter. i'll just get some jedi to slap me with infusion every 48 seconds and let it hit me. mission creatures don't really vary their attacks much. in the above tests with the lvl 80 piket every single one of the 800+ attacks landed for the same damage.
