Thread: Experimentation and recipes?

Hi guys, I am a new Chef on Tarquinas and I have a couple of questions for you more experienced Chefs.

First off, the 3 lines of experimentation, please tell me if I am correct in assuming that the Flavor line is Duration, the Nutrition line is effect of buff and the Quantity line is quantity in the stack right?

Second, in general, and I know this is a very broad sweeping question, how many of the points at Master do you put where?

Third, are there any certain recipes that you find to be good sellers? Aside from the obvious Sunburns and BoH's.

Also, I found that if you kill the animals that are being sheperded around the planets you get domesticated meat, but so far I only have about 30 so it does not seem feasible to achieve enough of this to run any of the Dom Meat requiring recipes through a factory, am I missing something?

I know this may seem like a lot, but I am grinding my way up and am trying to learn about the profession.

Thanks in advance guys!

You are correct on the Flavor = Duration and so on...
Where you put the points depends on the recipe, they are all different.
Many of us think that experimentation is borked.
Top Sellers are: Bivoli, Vercupti, Angerian, Pet Food (...), BoH, Sunburn, Thakitillo, Ryschate.

You're right on the experimentation lines, but "Flavor & Texture" also affects how much the food/drink bar fills up when the item is eaten. There aren't many that make a full dose difference that I've found, but if you're mixing-and-matching food for buffs (when buffs weren't bugged, that is), every little bit helps.

I tend to put most of my experimentation points into Flavor and Nutrition, especially now that eating more than one borks your stats. Disregarding the bug, each food has a "meal size", the point where you can't eat any more of that item. I try to get the quantity an integer mulitple of that, just to keep things simple, then dump about 2/3rds of the remainging points into Flavor (unless it caps earlier) and the rest into Nutrition.

I've had decent sales of Ormachek (buffs Mind/Focus/Concentration) and Durindfire (buffs Mind). Also Veghash, since it buffs all the regen stats it's handy for reducing downtime in camps (healing up from combat). For a regular seller, though, I make some decent credits from pet food. Get a recipe needing simple ingredients (Wastril and Stewed Gwouch are good, especially since you're grinding those anyway), get ones with as high OQ as you can, and put all your experimentation into quantity.

Unless you've got a lot of points in Scout (especially Hunting), it's pretty hard to get the meat, hide, and bones you need for a factory run. My suggestion is make friends with Scouts, or shop the bazaar.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the help! The only question I am left with is where to get large quatities of Dom Meat.

I am so far very pleased with what the Chef profession could become, and aside from just a few issues waht it is now,We just need a little love from the devs!

PLEASE JUST A LITTLE LOVE DEVS!!!!

Best place for domesticated meat that I have found is mawgax on Yavin IV.

A couple of other questions?

First off has anyone noticed a significant difference between an average crafting station (10-20) and a great one (above 35)?

Second does it make any difference if you experiment on the component of other recipes? For example Starshines in Tats, or Aludium in BoH and does the quality of the ingredients in the component food make a difference?

The reason i ask is that the experimentation time takes a considerable amount longer to cook in the factory.

Once again, thanks for your help!

What is maugax? Waypoint or loc?

And thanks for the info!

Mawgax are just some giant ostrich like creatures on Yavin IV. You can pull missions for them at the outpost terminals.

Well, the tool/station effectiveness number has had a lot of debate, and as far as I know the jury is still out. If you have access to better ones, use them, but I think your Cooking skill is going to to have a bigger effect.

The only big difference I've seen on components is in their base ingredients, not necessarily on the experimentation. Starshines made from better gas, metal, and cereal seem to make better Sunburns. But increasing the components' stats with experimentation and using the same materials doesn't make a noticeable difference.

You know what, I haven't given this a serious look for a while (back when I had a lot less experimentation points). BRB....

....logging in....grabbing resources....crafting....

Ok, back. It seems like I was wrong. I always assumed that identical percentages reportedin the categories meant identical results. But I tested with 4 Aludiums, all made from the same materials. They all got great success (came out 10/10/9 for Flavor/Nutrition/Quantity), and I experimented on two of them: one to 27/45/9, the other to 25/43/9. I then made four Durindfires from them, using the same gem and gas. All the Durindfires came out as great success, and the experimentation percentages were identical (8/4/16). However, the buffs were different:

  • Durindfire from both 10/10/9 Aludiums: +140 mind, -86 health, 196s, 5 doses.

  • Durindfire from 27/45/9 Aludium: +170 mind 199s, -71 health 215s, 5 doses

  • Durindfire from 25/43/9 Aludium: +175 mind, -56 health, 209s, 5 doses

Howeverthe number of blue experimentation boxes on the Durinds were all the same.

My hypothesis: the initial experimentation percentageyou get on the final itemdepends on the moderate/great/amazing success (which itself depends on your assembly skill andthe complexity of the item), and the resources used (possibly including what was used in the subcomponents). The maximum buff value depends on the final item's resources and the experimentation done on the subcomponents. That maxvalue gets adjusted by the percentage to get the resulting buff (which can itself be experimented on).

So experiment on subcomponents, an extra +30 or +35 mind for a couple more steps is nothing to sneeze at.
