Hokay, I'm grinding Chef. I want to be the one that places the Cantina for our city and have no interest in being a dancing wookiee. Besides, it'll be a nice place to sell Spice out of when I master smuggler.
I have found where it says a cantina will require five of my housing lots, which is onerous but not something that will break me. But I can't find any information about cantina's except that if I want to put anything on top of the tables I will have to walk up the stairs to drop it at the level I require and then move it around the room to get it placed.
Can anyone answer a few simple questions on Cantinas?
How much do they cost to maintain? How much can they hold? I've found conflicting posts about if I can declare residence. Do they come with a bar tender or do I have to take merchant skills too? If I place it poorly because my sense of direction is poor, can I pick it up again or is it like a City Hall, once down is it stuck there? Is every cantina laid out the same way? Can trainers (if I can convince the mayor to let me have some) be placed inside? Do they count against the number of objects allowed inside?
And some hints on how to get folks to use the thing would be appreciated. Is anyone using local cantinas or is everyone on all the servers just going to Lag Central in Coronet and doing their dancing there?

Not sure on declareing but I don't see why not
250 items
No bartender you have to suppy your own.
They can be reeded.
The insides all look exactly the same, maybe coloring differences but the exact same layout.
Trainers can only be placed outdoors currently, IIRC.
We use our cantina very often.

Cantinas cost 50cr/h ... that's 8400cr per week (taxes not included 
)
And on Trainers: unfortunatly you can't place them in "private" (player owned) sturctures - but you can place them inside civic buildings like the city hall or the clone center (I had 2 trainers placed there - TKA and Commando since I thought they'd be there most

To get people into your cantina have people perform there regularly so people now they'll find somebody to watch and chat with ... and manage some events from time to time.

You can declare residence, and do all the normal things you would in a house (it can be set to private, you can add people to admin and ban lists, rename it, etc).
They have a highish maintenance number, but since that didn't translate to anything specific in my senile mind I forgot what it was -- I will tell you that 100k paid the maintenance for 83 days. So not too terrible. And the maintenance is paid directly by the owner, its not part of the city like the cloning facility.
Yes you can pick it up and move it. But I don't remember the fee (3k at least methinks).
From what I can tell, the cantinas are all laid out in the same way, just using different textures (stone vs carpet, etc). Same layouts, just need to make sure you get the appropriate one for your planet.
The only thing it comes with is the bar itself and the stage area. It has nice lighting.You will have a lot of flexibility though because of all the stairs at differing heights. Though archway that leads into the main room act as a doorway, preventing you from moving anything past it so you won't be able to put anything on tables on the uppermost area (the floor of the bar area). That was probably too much info or made no sense, eh? The lowest floor area by the stage is the best place for tables with items on top, is what I'm trying to say.
It holds.. 250 items! Nice! But mine is already full and I haven't even finished my little Tomb of Forgotten Recipes yet. Must consolidate. Bah.
As far as employees, you need to place a vendor or have someone do it for you to actually sell stuff. In the interim you could have someone make you a droid shell or BE critter for the space if you want it to look lively until you work out the details.
I've found that a lot of wandering people will look in cantina buildings for entertainment but it isnt the first stop for those looking to buy spice and food. So if you can get someone in there on a regular basis to entertain, I would think you'll get more visitors. A musician or dancer can register the location on the planetary map which will help for those people who actually check the planetary map. With a vendor if your merchant is skilled enough you can register your bartender with planetary map too, which will bring in the spice/food seekers who actually check the planetary map. If your town has a heavily trafficked area (merchant tents or whatnot) you can make yourself a little advertisement and drop it in there.

There is a nice space on the front of the cantina buildings though where you can place one. You could place statues or lamps there too, to give your place a more unique look (if you get the chance to check, that whole front area where you are able to walk can support city decorations or trainers). (The mayor will have to place these outdoor decorations for you though and they will add a small amount to the city maint.)
I really love the cantinas, even though they take so many darn lots and don't have a back room for my ugly containers. Congrats on opening yours. =)

Thanks all for the answers, even if they were not what I wanted. Wish I could hit the Devs up for a bartender in the place, I have no desire to go merchant.
More important issues for them I guess, like giving us some way to place things on the shelves. Also, for five feckin' lots, 250 items seems kind'a sparse. After tables and chairs, some stage decorations and a couple potted plants, I'll be lucky to have much left for actually stocking the bar.
I'll give a shout out when the place is open for business and let'cha know how it goes.

Well, it could be worse. PA halls also have a limit on 250 items, and they take up 8-9 lots.
And if you do end up putting in a vendor (either your own from business III or placed by a merchant), stock stored in that doesn't count towards the building item limit.

Well a little hint for the upper tables near the bar, there are4 differnt glasses that are already set at table elevation and dont need to be staired to work.
The aitha glass type
the blue milk glass type (BOH, blue milk)
and i belive the Caf glass
and the Spiced tea Metal glass
when dropped these are at cafe table height and can be used anywhere.

Blue Milk. Yea, rite.
Regular milk sells fer like 3k on the Bazaar. Think I'm gonna waste my time with things that need milk to make just for decorations?
Sorry, when the Devs give us milk that isn't a drop from Nym's Henchmen or other such silly sources, then I will begin looking at using it.

1. in two weeks or so when the new patch goes live, you can get milk from herbivores.
2. if all you want is a decoration, go to one of the many cantinas that has a NPC bartender and buy milk from them for 5 credits, it looks just like the Blue Milk crafted item, but is called "milk" and has no stats.
