Ok, I did some quick tests varying the quality of the resources used to make alcohol to see if this had any effect on the final drink.

Good alcohol: made with DR 616, Flavor 725, PE 667, OQ 861 wild wheat

Bad alcohol: made with DR 394, Flavor 393, PE 341, OQ 348 Domesticated oats.

I made Ithorian mists with these (using identical resources and small glasses) until I got a "great success" with each of the alcohol types.

The only difference between the two were the serial numbers. Since all the stats were 1.5 to 2x as good on the wheat, I think this means that component quality really doesn't matter, especially since they've also removed the experimentation on alcohol.

I'll do some tests with foods using experimentable components to see if there's any difference to the final product with those.

I honestly won't miss experimenting on components. It takes some of the pressure off having to find top resources all the time so now you can just set up a few harvesters outside your home to grab anything for components.

You will still need to go searching for main ingredients to make a good product though

while the developers are listening to us and making changes based on our suggestions....the ability to esperiment on components is not one I think we are going to see in the near future. It would me re-writing all the exerimentation equations they just put in, and that will be a lot of work.

There seems to be enough customization as it is now Vimes, I don't really want experimentation on components anymore. It'll let me drop that section of Artisan.

Well ... darn. Maybe I am in the minority, but I pride myself on watching the planets for only the best resources and using them in my food -- that included the components -- and was always satisfied to see a very good result.

But I guess we can all learn to live with change. Thanks for testing for us, in any case!!
