Hi there folks -

I've returned to chef after a looong time (originally aimed to be a pistoleer/chef, ended up being a pistoleer/doc), so I have some observations to add...

1. This whole 'depend on Bio-engineer' is ridiculous. In real life I don't go and see a chemist evertime I want to cook up a special meal. In fact, If at all possible I look for organic food that DOESN'T have input from a chemist. We've already got dependencies for getting meat from scouts and rangers so adding this is just plain DUMB. If addatives are to continue CHEFS should be the ones to make them.

In our example, I'm cooking my 'special lady' an anniversary meal. I select the best ingredients, prepare them with love, and then , to complete the effect, grab a bucket of MSG, preservative and Genetically modified gunk and drop it the pot.

End result - divorce!

This is simply not the way Chef should work...

Sorry, just noticed how many capitalised words I've used, but it's all from the heart

2. The FOTM Chef will pass very quickly - and a lot of good for the community should, hopefully, come out of those who perservere

3. The revamp makes the chef products much more accessible at low levels and gives people like me (with really short attention spans) the chance to go oooh and ahh over the wonderful effects of the new products

4. The revamp is as buggy as hell. In particular this was annoying because Aitha, the mind healing drink, is something that the game has cried out for since day one.

5. On the whole I'm glad I came back - if they can fix the bugs (and stop us having to add chemicals to our food) I'll be well happy.

I'm not 100% happy with the need for BE additives to make products of a high level, as it is more or less a requirement if you want to be competetive, but it's there, and it works.

Our PA's BE is making a nice amount of cash just from my orders for additives, and Im making a nice profit on the final sales.
The real issue I have atm is the fact that we have to take the additives, and then make a food additive as another factory stage.

I generally only use +nutrition additives, and they can take any old meat, it's only really the filling ones that are a pain due to the Domesticated Meat requirements.

The problem is that either the BE additives actually do something worthwile or they don't do anything worthwhile and hence need not be in the game. Personally I would rather have the additives than without. It gives another dimesion to the food. Call it adding some spice if you will. The game lends no dependance on BE additives. They arecompletely optional in your crafting process. The affects are still there and worthwhile without the additives. The problem comes down to the customer, and their need to have the absolute best no matter what the cost may be.

As to real life chefs, they depend extremely heavially on all sorts of professions, including engineers and chemists. The power plant that provides the lighting for the kitchen and power for the stove need the CEs to make the power plants run and the electrical insulation on the wires. If it is a gas range, well the chemical people are needed their too. Then you have food shipment, storage and preservation. That is a lot of plastic and refrigeration that takes place. The farmer needs fertializer and trucks to grow and harvest the food. The store needs the little plastic name badges to further degrade their employees. There is such a huge interdependance on others in real life that we don't even see it. Like not being able to see the forest cause all those damn trees are in the way.

It does make chef a harder job. In return the benefits are huge as is the profit. If chef was too easy, anyone could do it and so would. The reward for being chef would simply suck, think smuggler spice. That is not a place we want to go.

I do aggree if making the food additive does nothing at all, then why is it in the game? Kinda like the alcohol that is seemingly pointless now.
