I wrote this out for the benefit of my PA mates, but wanted to get some discussion going about my findings from chefs higher up th tree, and longer in the tooth.

Tell me what you all think:

First off, for you folks who aren't into food much, one should buy food/drinks that boost the primary HAM stats only for healing, or for combat prep, and not pay much attention to long durations. Quite frankly, the buff will be gone once combat is initiated, so 400 seconds, eh, who cares. Plus, there's the wear-off incap possibility. Now, ones that buff secondary attributes are more valuable with longer durations, for they sit there and assist your HAM regens, and/or cause the HAMs to go down slower in the first place when you're using specials. They only go down with wounds, which are their own problem.

Going in order as presented, first off are totally useless items.
I think that this segment should be one of exclusion; showing the one I would take OFF that list. The good others will wind up in other categories, but there is one I want to point out because people may brush them off without further thought.

My number one misirepresented food!

Air cake.
Simply put: this hits ALL Stats. It's also bakeable at low boxes, and for the crafter, gives good xp; The problem with it is it requires two different factory components if we're talking crates. Ah well. This I will continue to make because it is essential for a number of reasons. People who's stats are just a bit low for their Composite suits will use it to don their armor. It's also useful for healing up in camp with boosted substats. It's just too useful to ignore and not stock, short-lived or not.. gonna try for a run before the weekend.Lastly, good to take with other foods that have any negatives to them, to counter said negatives. Better with drinks for the fullness factor, but can be used with food as well.

2. Stuff for new or cash-poor characters:

Caf:
decent substat buffs, a small negative, yes, but an excellent duration for its low level.

Kanali Wafers:
same as above, but without the negative.

Jawa Beer:
An excellent duration for 2 substats. Problems: will be expensive due to named component [wooly hide], plus a negative to focus. But, one thing I cannot stress that causes it to sell: it's BEER. People just want it because it's beer. I can't explain it, but it's true.

Starshine Surprise:
Since there will be aot of it about for Sunburn runs, an odd dose of this is prety good if the noob can afford it. over +100 buffs, small negative [air cake?] and long duration.

The next category is into Chef, so the poor man may not look to them.

3. One-offs, Decorations for houses and/or Role-Play purposes:
Dustcrepe [cuz it resembles nothing so much as a lump of poop.. believe me, i've seen it laying near deployed pets in people's houses]; synthsteak [cuz it's a full 3-course entree grafic for your table]; Karkan Ribenes [same as synthsteak]; Rakririan Burnout Sauce [though it may be hard to get or afford, it comes in a unique cool-looking steel pressure container, and the negative to focus will likely incap you as soon as you ate it, so if you have one, you are HARDCORE]; Corellian Fried Ice Cream [looks great, and the name and rareity puts it in demand]; lastly, though they're in another category, anything with milk [pure rareity and expense, and the fact that their mediocre buffs do NOT justify either of the former]

4. Pet food:
All i would recommend is Bofa Treat - why bother with anything harder? I have yet to hear of or experiment with other foods [though I am SURE there are more] which also satisfy your pets.

5. Useful, but somehow detrimental, food/drink:
Caf [cheap, easy to make, relatively long duration with small negative, 2 HAMs + substat]; Jawa Beer again [long duration, easy to make, small negative]; Teltier Noodles [Health heal + long-lingering Willpower buff]; Blood Chowder [but just barely makes it, too short duration]; Veghash [short duration but 3 high substat buffs]; Firestew [only it's near 400 duration makes it notable, negative is high]; Vegeparsine [short duration and expensive but 3 excellent substat buffs]; Rakirian Burnout Sauce [as said, will incap you most likely at the first bite, and i doubt anyone ever takes a second nibble, but the positives are incredibly high substat buffs]; Xermaauc [very overlooked, one of longest buffs, 3 mixed buffs, but will be EXPENSIVE due to special components]; Accarragm [good buffs but expensive]; Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud [overlooked Action HAm heal, long duration, but very expensive specific resource components]; Flameout [huge multiuse Health HAM heal with massive negatives, good duration]

Ah, best for last...

6. Pure yummy buffing goodness:
Kiwik Clusjo Swirl [this never gets mentioned, why? Good HAM + substat buff for good duration, not too expensive, early skill box]; Ryshcate [good 3-substat buff with 400+ duration]; Tatooine Sunburn [King of Buff Drinks, no need to tell you... but possible typo made it's buffs in the +1600 range for 400+ seconds]; Veronian Berry Wine [HAM healing with good duration, and it's 'wine' name attracts like beer]; Thakitillo [3 large mixed buffs for 600+ seconds]; Breath of Heaven [3 +400 substat buffs for 500+ seconds, what's not to love?]

It is my sincere hope that the rework is intelligent. I can hope, can't I? For now, intelligent use by players based on your combat needs, mxing for greater buffs, adding Air Cake to counter the negatives, should get you by very nicely. Chef's still don't buff like docs or dancers, so i pray we can do at least on par with them when Chef 2.0 comes out.
