A chef you say? A chef? What possible role could a chef play in space combat?

More than you might think, as i'm about to discuss.

In modern airforces, stimulants are taken to help a pilot stay alert and awake. A moments lapse of concentration and the next thing you know you could have a several million pound fighter jet plunged half way into a mountain.

Star Wars Galaxies can mimic this, creating another market for Chefs. As with all chef goods, I try to make it so these food ideas are not 100% needed to fly in space, but will help a great deal.

As an arcade-style shooter, Food cannot equal skill. A food can't decide wether a blaster bolt hits you or not. But it could be compared to the modern use of stimulants mentioned above.

A Starfighter pilot could take an extremely hot and spicy beverage to keep himself alert and on edge. With a drink like this, a ships turning speed could be modified slightly, giving the illusion that the pilot is under the effect of a mild stimulant via the food.A spice could also be made for the Smuggler community, which enhances this greatly (about three times better than the food approximatly), but with terrible side effects and a short lifespan. After consuming the spice variant the pilot exhausts him/herself, the ships turning slowing down considerably due to the ache and strain of the pilots muscles and mind.

Other foods can be thought of with a little imagination.

A Merchant Vessel which is often under pirate attack may choose to supply its pilots with a soothing, calming stimulant. This would help a Merchant pilot to escape by calming his/her nerves, allowing them to focus on getting out of the sitatuation as fast and as safely as possible. Consumption of this food would make a craft rock and trash about less, helping it to stay steady and not spin out of control under blaster fire and/or collision. A spice variant could also be made, as above giving a much better effect, but with side-effects afterwards. During the downer the pilot gets shakey as the spice is attempting to be purged from the system, causing the ship to rock about at even glancing hits.

I'm sure the Developers and the Chef community can think of many more foods to go with this idea.

What do you all think of this idea? Good? Bad? Does it involve Chefs in Jump To Lightspeed or ruin an arcade experience? Is it a valid use of Development Resources or a useless waste of time? Feedback would be welcome .

/cheer crixx excellent idea mate, and one that would defintiely keep chefs competitive and active post JTL.

I really do think there is a alot of pontential in the food stimulant market in JTL other than just spices. Hopefully we can find a better balance for space foods with spice than what has happened on the ground.

Another slighty of the wall one is a sort of bespin port idea designed to help a ships regeneration, it helps the pilot or crew's mechanical abilty hence he can reapir the ship quicker and make the ship regen a little fast.

I'm sure there are alot more ideas. This is a really interesting concept.

Great Ideas, I just hope they don't give the whole stimulant thing to the BE's, it sorta sounds to me like a BE thing

What I would like to see are vendors in the NPC starports that us merchants can rent out for a price, and those would allow us to sell our goods in space rather than having to stay on the ground

By 'stimulant' im talking about how the food is an effector on the body, not how the item is constructed . Consuming the food/drink triggers reactions in your body. Something cold may calm your nerves, whilst extremely hot and spicy goods would make one extremely alert and awake.

Sounds like a good idea We'd probably be working with the BE's again on this one for the construction

Just so you know, TH has said that there won't be any new foods added when JTL launches. That doesn't mean that we can't gather ideas to toss at the devs for a future publish, and these look like a good start.

Although the character's skills are going to have much less impact on your flying and combat ability, so there may not be much we'll be able to add to compared to the ground game. Unless you're talking about delivering RL food/drink to the player at the keyboard.

Well however much it might be a pain to get a Bio Engineer, it does bring content to their profession. And you can make a deal to buy some little BE Bunny rabbits etc to decorate your new starship while your at it .

Yes, this was one of my major worrys when thinking of the idea. There would no doubt be complaints that adding such things would be taking away from the arcade feel of the game. I'm sure its something to think about, anyway.

It could be just like those creatures crawling around in the ship from KOTOR... this game is slowly turning into another RPG I know hehe

But BE's are few and far between, I'm gonna need to find a BE and latch on like some sort of leech

Great Ideas.

Before I forget I'll throw this one out there based on how food can help the pilot.A stimulant/focus enhancer can do one of two things and maybe both... First, The "target area" can grow according to the foods effect and the to-hit area on the enemy ship becomes larger. Second, fancy ship movements should cost action and mind [perhaps all HAM]to execute effectively. Why have the skill boxes and training if there are no specials like there are on the ground? At any rate, if the pilot uses HAM to do amaneuvering special, then we are all set!Pilots will stock up on food, docs will get even more business at the starports and while we're at it ... why not use the doc disease/poison buff to protect against radioactive leaks if your ship gets hammered?

There's real potential here, folks! If there are specials ... we are happy.
