I see some people pressing that barrels be fixed, and then I see others who seem to not care. I'm just wondering how urgant is this on everyones list?
Personally, I wouldn't mind if they completely removed barrels. I think casks give high enough quantity that it's a nice high end container. You still have to get a number of resources for it and go to another profession to get them complete.
Now if we get barrels fixed all the top chefs will most likely switch to these barrels and then we'd have to rely on Master Artisan as well. It's just not something I'm too thrilled about.
I say keep everything up to the casks.

Eh, I like them. And personally I think it would be easier to get Master Artisan (for me at least)than getting enough tailoring to make your own trim for casks. But I see what you mean.
Ideally, I'd like for them to put casks in, and plates for foodies.
The thing I like about being a chef is giving my customers all the options, and letting them choose exactly how much they want to spend for what they're getting. So another drink container size would be great, even if the components are hard to get. But where there is demand, there will be supply, so I wouldn't worry about the current lack of MA components. If barrels are fixed, there should be a good market for them in time.

I agree with the food plates, but please do make them optional. If I just want to make some quick food say for rp'ing and chefing in the cantinas, I dont want to make another component.

At this point, I think having a larger multiplier than casks isn't that big of a deal.
What would be interesting, though, is if barrels gave some other benefit. Maybe only 2x the stack size, but a small improvement (maybe 5%) to duration or buff size to reflect the better "storage" of the drink.
And I'd also like to see plates get added in sometime, too.

Thats a good idea, instead of it adding more to the stack size it would give some other type of bonus, since casks do already give a fairly large boost (although it depends on the drink of course).
And yeah, I agree that plates should be optional, with different sizes. Different effects would be great too. Maybe the plates could be gotten by quests or *gulp* looting. Though once again I'd hope that they would be a permenant addition to the characters schematics, not a limited use thing.

I think when the Big Chef Changes originally came in, that barrels would have been useful and needed.
Since then, it seems like a lot of the old-school players have left the game. And a fair number of the folks that are still here are playing less.
As a result I have seen a bigger rise in folks buying just single stacks, because they don't play often enough to need a big crate. There are of course plenty of people still buying crates too, but I have noticed a sharper rise in the single stack buyers, enough to make it worth my time to keep providing them on my vendor.
That's why I think that barrels are not a big issue right now.
Of course when JTL comes out, I expect a lot of former players will return, and there will be new subscribers signing up, so things may change. But then again, I get the impression that folks won't really be needing food in space.
Perhaps we should all invest in Tang schematics?

I dont think Barrels are really neccessary anymore, Casks already give drinks a great stack size, and the resources for Barrels is far higher than Casks, so I wonder if it would be even worth the time to produce them. I would however like them to add plates to the game, as either a required or optional component to increase food stack sizes.

To be honest, I'd prefer barrels simply because I'm a Master Artisan and it's hard for me to find crated Trim on my server.

Every time I see a post about barrels I have to jump in! I hope they never fix them. We already have to rely on Tailors and BE's, adding another profession dependency is just too much. It wouldn't be difficult to pick up Master Artisan but then I'd have to have a factory that's only used for one thing and I'd have to make even more components and mine more resources. No fun. Ban the barrels!
