Well I must say the FAQ in this profession and the various tables and calculators are excellent.

On saying that I still have a few questions I would like a little advice on.

I am interested in how the top chefs get there extra little edge. I see alot depends upon the resources but I am wondering how much having those extra points in Experiementation and Assembly help out. How much the quality of the tools and crafting station can affect the results, and basically what foods if any should be consumed before working in the kitchen.

Thanks for any replies

Extra experimentation points obviously helps because you can improve more categories. With 10 points, you can generally max out one category, and maybe have one or two points left over for others. With 12, you get that much more improvement to spread around.

It's hard to really quantify the effects of tools, stations, and the +assembly/+experimentation bonuses since the randomness of the success "roll" makes it hard to find a pattern. Maybe I'll track down an architect willing to make me the crappiest -40 crafting station known to man, make some tools from some 10Conductivityironand see how big of a difference that makes.

But, if you wanted to to go for the best-of-the-best kitchen:

  • Food/Chem crafting station of +43 or better (I believe it maxes out at +45)

  • Food/Chem crafting tool of +14.8 or better (definitely maxes out at +15)

  • As many +experimentation and +assembly tapes as you can find, up to +25 in each. I haven't been able to see an increase in starting percentages with an amazing assembly compared to just a great, but it's possible that better assembly "smooths" the experimentation, making them come out better.

  • Put a house (with your crafting station) in a player city with the Research center specialization (improves experimentation success).Or even better, one with a Master Politician mayor and both Research and Manufacturing specializations. Manufacturing gives the same bonus to assembly that Research does to experimentation. I'm not sure why (I can't find it documented anywhere), but my memory seems to want to put forward that these specializations give +15 to the related skill's rolls.

  • Before assembly, eat Pyollean Cake (improves assembly success roll).

  • Before each experiment, drink Bespin Port (improves experimentation success roll).

That would get you every possible bonus available in the game. Unfortunately, there's still the whim of the random roll, so it doesn't give any guarantees, but the odds would be much more weighted in your favor.

Mayors can no longer make a city both Research and Manufacturing specialized, it never made it from the Test Center. The Research bonus is 15% to the Experimentation Roll. Currently Master Politicians get nothing but a title.

Crafting Stations do max at 45 (few of us out there managed to get some perfect ones from the one day crafting patch).
