Thread: Experimentation help, I'm lost...

Well, instead of hijacking another thread, thought I'd post one on experimenting with Brandy schematics.

I was completely lost while asking some questions on experiementing but I think the clue light just came on.

Here's what I've been doing:

1) Finding good BE additive (+83 first now +85 which is the highest I've seen for sale on Valcyn)

2) Finding good PE/OQ berries/fruit (950+ PE/OQ for both)

3) Running crates of alcohol and casks

4) Throwing em all in together on the schematic

(now it gets frustrating)

5) Going to experiment stage on the +42 crafting station with my +13 tool, popping on my +5/+5 assembly/experimentation apron

6) I load up all my points (9 I think?) into Nutrition cause I read that was where you got the +'s to foc/mind/will

7) throw an extra point on filling to get below %51

8) Hit the run experiment (I've actually clicked "done" too on accident <fume>

This has been getting me no higher than +398 on the brandy with 35mins, 49% fill (great successes only, no amazings). I can only sell these crates for about 100k instead of rocking the 200k I'm seeing for +420 and 40mins available on my server.

Long way to get to a question though, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!!???

I keep hearing about folks using worse ingreds as me getting over 400 on their schematic. Should I pop the experiment points one at a time? Am I putting too much into nutrition? I've never checked the final result to see how I did on any of the stats.

Any help out there? I need it!!

First, I would recommend trying only two or three points at a time and never experimenting on two lines at a time. I think you might get the same results for a great success either way but better chance of great/amazing if you use less points.

It looks like you have 10 experimentation points. The people getting better results with lesser ingredients might have 11 or 12, and those points do help.

Or the ingredients they have might not really be worse as you think. I've made +420, 45 minute brandy with sub-900 PE/OQ ingredients. A big part of the reason is having a good DR that gives 50 filling on the initial combine, so all of my points can go to flavor and nutrition.

that's true, the berries I have right now unfortunately have hardly any dr or flavor so it's difficult to get a good duration )think mine is 37 miniutes) but the power is good, I think 430ish. this is using 950+ oq and pe berries and fruit.

also, check the bio-engineering boards, to see the rundown on the additives. With a little research, and some chatting with the local BE's, you may be able to provide a resource to push the additive to 86 or higher. that one point does help.

secondly, if you dont have at least +10 experimentation, you are missing out on one experiment point.

thirdly, do you eat a Pyrollian cake before the assembly roll?

lastly, drink a bespin port before each experimentation attempt.

be patient, using ingredients that normally give me a 388, I got a lucky 414 brandy, 40.5 min, 49 fill, 18use using this method. It took several tries, several hours due to stomach fill, but it happened.

Another thing is that even if you fill up the empty "bubbles" with points, a successful experiment won't fill it all the way. Each bubble is 10%, a great success only adds 7%. So if you haveseven empty bubbles (70%) and get a great success using seven points (49%), there will still be two or three bubbles empty after the experiment that you can put points into again.

I generally stick to experimenting 3 points at a time. More than that and the frequency of great successes starts dropping.

The one bonus of using all the points you can at once is an amazing success has a better return. You take the risk of having wasted the food though. Here is what I generally do.

43ish crafting machine

15 tool(Not possible on some servers)

Research facility(If your city isn't one I would recommend going to one and trying to local a public crafting station)

Load up whatever food I make.

Put as many point into Nutrition as possible. Run the experiment, and pray for an amazing success.

I repeat until I get an amazing. Once I do I again pray I get all great successes or better from then on. There are cases where I need amazings on filling or duration so I would do those first. Amazings give a 8% boost instead of the 7% boost. I have noticed a few cases where this isn't the case, some Bivoli I made tonight was an example, but cases like this seem to be random.

This process is not without its costs though. There have been times where it has taken 20 tries to get a good schematic. Thats 20 additives, 20 sets of any components, 20 sets of resources. For me this doesn't matter as I only sell crates, anything less than 25 in a crate is next to worthless to me since I decided a while ago I wasn't going to sell anything lower. It just took up to much time stocking and keeping track of what I had left.

If you maxed out your nutrition and your at under 400 with brandy there are either 2 possibilities. You either used a bad additive(85% is very good, I've made +400 with 81's) or base fruit or berries. That is usually the case. If you can't put anymore points into nutrition and your not as high as others, it is just because of resources. There is nothing you can do as a chef to increase it. Having 12 exp points won't make you able to get more of a buff, it will only allow you to experiment more in other areas. You will never be able to use more than 10 points in a single line unless you have some sort of failure in experimentation. All great successes and you will never be able to use more than 10 points.

Thanks for all the info folks. My problem is that I've been unwilling to try over and over again to nail that good schematic. I'm gonna get some cake/port and work at nailing a good schematic. I guess the greed factor of losing a crate worth of resources was my downfall

Still seems like I should knock a +400 out easily with the resources I'm using though. I'll try some of the ideas here and see what the result is.

Thanks again!!

Just thought I'd update anyone who cares.

Bought some cakes, made some port, and started crafting again.

First result straight outta the chute: +437, 49% fill, 21 doses, 35 mins 30s!!!! (and then I made a prototype instead of a schematic!!!!!)

Second result after banging my head on the wall 100 times: +418, 49% fill, 21 doses, 37min 45s (still much much better)

Thanks all, and for you new chefs out there, the cake works great because you start the experimentation stage with much higher stats on your product. Then drink the port after every experimentation point you spend and you get a few amazings.

All that's left is to get more SEAs for assembly and experimentation to get a few extra points!!!

Thanks All!!!

you're not the only one. my dogs know, when they hear me scream, that i pushed prototype instead of schematic.
