make crate of food.
I just got master chef today. I want to make crates of food. I have been trying with my generic crafting tool to make some food and for some reason it uses the experimentation points by itself I can't choose where to put them.

You cannot experiment or make factory schematics with "Generic" crafting tools. You need a "specialized" tool (in this case a food/chem tool) and a food/chem crafting station. You can use stations in NPC cities, buy one from an architect to place in your home, or buy a droid from a DE with a food/chem crafting module.
These items do have "quality" ratings, which has a small effect on your success when experimenting. For best results, use your generic tool to make a "weapon, droid, and general item" tool. Then use that tool to make a food/chem tool while standing in front of a WDG station. Use high-conductivity metal (copper is usually the best bet), the stats on the chemical doesn't matter. Experiment on the food/chem tool to increase the rating. It caps out at +15, anything over +14 is about as high as you're going to get without 1000 CD copper and/or an entertainer buff.
Private crafting station ratings cap out at +45 (43 or 44 is probably the best that actually achievable). Public stations (the ones in NPC cities) and droid modules probably have a rating +0 (so no benefit or drawback), although this has never really been confirmed.
When using a food/chem tool by a food/chem station, after putting the resources together you'll get a window with the options to "create prototype" (make the item with no experimentation), "Experiment" (spend points to improve the item) and "create schematic" (creates a factory schematic to make crates). After choosing "experiment" and spending all your points, this window comes back with the "prototype" and "schematic" options, so you can make the item/schematic with the results of your experimentation.

gotta love the gun bunnies who try out a crafting prof. it will give you a whole new respect for those of us who master and run multiple crafting profs.
