Hi,
I had an idea to get Chef's more involved in active situations - I propose giving various high defence mod foods a limited life from craft (eg 5-15mins). This would encourage/make more profitable the Chef profession as they could be hired to accompany teams on raids n' stuff.
Anyone confer?

Its a good idea and all but I don't want to put you down or anything.
1.) The chef would probably die quick as they have no other skills if your like me Chef/Merchant/Art.
2.) How would you get around the no trading while in combat (alot of the time your in combat for almost the whole run)
3.) Some chefs would just charge outrageous prices (being as its a needed now food).
Like I said don't want to put your idea down just giving you some things why it may not work.

This I think is the most important flaw with your idea. Even if the defence buffs were godly, the actual act of having to pass them out would be a huge pain. Excuse me Mr. Tank with a SBD and Wraith on you, can you peace out so I can trade you this Ryschate? Wouldn't work unless the trading system was changed, or the food buff system. Thats part of what the appeal of Chef products are, you buy them and the customer can apply them without anyone else's involvement. If you wanted to give a reason to groups to want to have a Chef present, you could give them some kind of passive buff...and that sounds too much like EQ2 and group buffs to me.
I don't see why Chefs *ahem* need to get involved in combat more than any other crafting profession. Though I understand wanting to, thats why you have another account or character for that. If combat is your cup of caf, then you have the Skill Points after mastering chef to get something. Mostdevoted chefs can't spare the SPs.
And instead of giving defence buffs, I think offensive buffs would be more helpful in a situation like the corvette or DWB in any case.
Until Chefs get a rolling pin that is an automatic KD on hit (Joking!), I can't see people looking for chefs for fighting in raids.
I thought one part of the CURB and GCW revamp was getting crafting professions with no combat skills more involved. I don't know how they plan on doing that, but I'm all for content NOT combat based. *Ahem-baitandswitch-Force Sensitive Quests*
But yeah, in theory it would be nice

not all of us are without combat skills...and I do pretty well in the DWB and the Vette.
I think we need a /pietoss that stuns and blinds an opponent though...![]()

Trade wouldn't have to be during combat as the Chef would be a bit behind the front line, otherwise a small technical tweak on the trade window is all that is required. My original idea was initiated by considering the CU and widening the potential gameplay. Seems to have general approval without any unsurmountable probs and is in no danger of upsetting game balance if incorporated with the CU - those guys prob have enuf on their plate at mo tho.
Thanks for feedback all.
