Wookies can wear aprons?!? I'm going to find one tonight...*crossing my fingers*. Yeah my foods aren't horrible, but you gotta be the best around right?

Well, let's see:
I mastered Chef in November 2003. Focused on specialty made Sith Sunburn (branded version of Tatooine Sunburn), Angerian Fishak, and Breath of Heaven. Don't worry about those foods, post-revamp stuff is much better.
Revamp hit February 2004, along with the addition of the crafter's aprons.I bought one for around 100k, putting me at +105 experimentation.No more points, but I still used it for the (possibly illusory) improved chances of amazing success.
The next +experimentation item I bought was a belt with +8 food experimentation, putting me at 11 points...{checks calender}....two weeks ago. And I haven't even really done any major production with the 11th point, since I can't find any stocked tissue, and my BE partner has been out of game for a bit. She should be back in the next few days, though, and I'm curious how +419 / 45m / 49 fill / 21 use brandy will sell (my 10 point stuff was +407 / 45m / 49 / 21)
In the time between the revamp and now, solely as a 10 point chef, I've had anywhere from 100k to 15million credits in my bank account, depending on how sales went, any resource shopping I've done, large purchases of creature resources, any spending sprees I've gone on (I ended up spending far too much for my first few JTL ships, I just had to get them as fast as I could), etc. Although I also have the benefit of a stock of some long-gone resources. But I also watch swgcraft pretty closely and make sure that I jump on any new stuff that comes in if the quality merits it.

Having just mastered only like a month ago, how long did it take you 12 point chefs to acquire the skill tapes to become 12 point? I've only bought one CA with +1 experimentation, and I'm also a wookie so I can't use the crafters apron. 
I'm thinking it will take me months if not a year to become 12 point.

Around 3 months. And wooks can use the apron now mate. Got fixed a while back.
and don't worring, you can make good foods with 10 and 11 points, i sold plenty when i was one.

It took me about 3-4 months, and it's actually a shared suit.
Actually won a action for a +17 tape last week for an incredible 5 million, but it's like the seller - even though I won it fair and square - wouldn't sell it for that cheap ... he is ignoring every tell and every mail. :/ Guess you can't be lucky.

Tyfo, I hope you are informing people about the unscrupulous seller in-game and on the forums. That's just low business and that person should have to deal with the repercussions of what they've done.

I was lucky when i desided to go Chef there was tons of tapes for sale so i became a +2 chef at once

I am not a 12 pointer yet but I have learned something important while shopping for CA's:
Make sure you buy Food EXPERIMENTATION tapes.. not Food Assembly. A higher assembly only decreases the chance of getting a "critical failure" message and will NOT add tothe "pool" of points you are trying to raise toa total of 20

I was a weird one and bought my suit before I ever became chef. In fact, it was the suit that made me go chef in the first place. I had 30 million lying around (ha!) and thought, "I'm getting sick of combat. Maybe I'll be a chef." So I sat on it for a couple days and decided upon buying out a suit that was up for auction. Voila! As soon as the grind was over I was already a 12 pointer, BUT I do know several people that have tried for nearly a year to piece together various tapes. With the nyax campers the price for the tapes has come down and the availability seems to have gone up. I'm seeing food exp. go for less than a million per point now on tapes with nice mods and they seem to keep cropping up. It may just by my server, but I do know that every server has it's share of loot campers, so take heart. If nothing else, you can get a crafter's apron, and a handful of +1's and you'll be an 11 pointer for relatively cheap. Changes are, it won't take long to scrounge up 5 +1's.

I managed to obtain the elusive "12-Point" status about 1 week after reaching Master Chef. Due in part to the creation of Veteran Rewards such as the "Anti-Decay Kits" and the "30K Resource Deeds." Bartering a trade with them allowed me to obtain a +14 Food Experimentation CAtape, which I added to my suit already consisting of a crafter's apron and a +1 food assembly tape. Upon crafting my first full run of Vasarian Brandy, I'm earning enough to purchase a +18 Food Assembly CA tape, which I will add to my suit as well. All in all, I should have a chef suit giving me +20 to Food Experimentation and +26 to Food Assembly (even though it caps at +25). Before I reached master chef, and even thought about purchasing a chef suit, I was able to receive permission from another master chef which owned a suit to use it when needed. You might try to get this type of agreement set up if it is possible. Good luck with the profession.

Still working on getting enough cash to afford the 12th point having made 11 relatively easily.
