Thread: For those complaining about the speed of xp

Xp is the same for the other elite artisan professions, in some cases worse(DE needs 48K for first box, architect 55K), and we all get most of our xp from crafting, rather than uxp. The xp/res rate is roughly the same for all of us.. The only reason we see more masters of other professions is a) they attract more powergamers, and b) there's a lot more of them. All elite artisan xp was 10K for first level until late in final beta, and then they decided it was too fast(it was possible to master in a couple of days of hard play), they looked at a bunch of metrics on how fast people were advancing, and changed the xp requirements accordingly. The only problem is, this was mainly done to artisan elite's only, so BE, and smuggler crafting trees are very easy. The xp rate is intended to be the way we, and the other elite artisans have it. Chances are that BE and smuggler spice xp will get nerfed sooner than later. The level growth rate is due to the type of player the varying classes attract. So please stop complaining about the xp.

Yah, i tried to talk about this in my post "chef is currently the greatest profession..."

But it seems many/most already agree

The problem is that an engineer can make something that gives him 500+ experience. Our things give us 75.

yeah when you look at it that way its demoralizing, I wouldnt mind the speed so much if the buffs were better I guess, but I definetly don't want it to be easy, that would take the point of it.

The difference is they can have high capacity harvesters. Broken high capacity and medium flora farms is what causes this to be kinda sucky.

So there's the amount of exp for a level, but what about the rate of gaining exp compared to other professions? Just curious. Some metrics:

  • Exp per resource.. chef generally gets 2x resources used when crafting.

  • UXP. Chef gets 50% of original exp if we get someone to eat it (factories & pets not giving UXP). I know bioengineer gets 150%, what about others?

  • Exp per item (especially when you're handcrafting items, as it takes a certain number of button clicks). Best item for novice chef is 70 (450 crafts of wastril bread to level), first tier 100, second tier 200-something.

  • Cost/time to gather resources. For chef we can't generally afford to buy our resources so we have to take time hand sampling or do other things to raise money for resources and harvestors. How much can other professions support themselves to make the time/cost of getting resources easier?

  • Ability to use factories to help level. Since factories get 100% exp, it seems the fastest way to level would be to run a bunch of factories next to each other while hand crafting. For chefs this is prohibitive because we have a hard time paying for/gathering enough resources to stock the factories, never mind paying for the factories themselves, and then we have to deal with the bug of factories wasting resources.

I've already explained several timeson these boards that OTHER NOVICE ELITE'S ARE ALSO USELESS.

Are you all really thinking that novice gunsmiths are making money selling weapons that are WORSE then experimented CDEF's? Do you think anyone wants to buy a mousebot for more than maybe what we sell a couple of starshine surprises. The only thing people want from a DE at the moment is a probot, and the DE is about to lose that too. A DE has to make 350+ mousebots to get 1 SKILL BOX(admittedly we need about 430 wastril breads). He can't even get uxp for them because he'd spend ages finding 300 people who even want a free mousebot. At novice gunsmith has to grind projectile pistol barrels(16 steel+10 metal) for 52xp each. Do you think we're worse off than that xp'wise? No we're not. Do some research before you start whining. Armorsmiths are slightly better off, except that they rely on having access to a tailor that owns a factory, or they cant make anything. Architects are the one exception(they're fully useful straight from novice), except that they need 55K xp instead of 32K xp. They also generally get the worst credit/res deal for their work(10K for a small house that uses 2400 ore, 800 metal and some other crap... seems like a **edit**ty deal to me).

Do some research before you start whining. Nearly every novice elite crafter SUCKS ASS.

For some reason weaponsmiths generally take the intelligent approach and understand that their weapons will suck until they get decent experimentation. As a result they go up to intermediate firearms crafting(to get scout pistol) and IMMEDIATELY start working on the experimentation tree so that their weapons are useful. A unexperimented Spraystick or EE3 would suck just as much ass as our unexperimented foods. Take a couple of boxes in a food type you'd like to pursue, then stop and go up cooking if you want to make GOOD buffs.

I'm finished ranting. You're probably all going to complain about me being a power-leveller, etc, etc, etc. But in the end we're nowhere near as bad as you may think. Look at the droid engineers. They have to grind as much as we do, and now their sunburn equivalent(the probot) is being taken away from them. I'd hate to be a DE much more now then I would being a chef.

J2 -

The problem is not exactly as you see it. No other elite artisan profession has to deal with this:

- The stuff in the elite profession being better than the stuff in basic artisan. I can make better food at a better value in the artisan line than 90% of the things in the chef line, and 100% of the things before the second tier.

- The stuff in the top tiers of the elite profession being inferior to the stuff in the second tier. Sounds Tatooine Sunburn is where it's at, which is only Mixology II!

your also forgeting

the second that weapon smith picked the elite class

All his Aritisan weapon switched from General crafting exp to regular crafting exp.

so he can still make CDEFs to get up in levels..

Now if chef could do that the Starshine surprises is just as good of exp as the Wastil bread but can be sold.

Chef cant do that though we still get general crafting exp for foods not chef crafting exp.

Also a Weapon smith I am pretty sure gains tons and tons of user exp for people using there guns all the time

Chef doesnt gain any user exp till an entire stack of food is consumed..

Weapon smiths gain levels fast as heck , just because of the user exp.

Nearly all weaponsmiths make their stuff by factory(since it guarrantee's a consistently high quality, for better sales), so they dont get uxp.

Secondly weaponsmith weapons suck ass until they've gone up the experimentation tree. I'm up to cooking III and I can make novice chef stuff better than dom art's stuff. So that argument is invalidated as well.

How copious pays for his extractors and factorys!

Well, I started as an artisian and I leveled myself making soft undershirts with two chemical extractors(back before the patch when they were like candy). So I got Novice Droid Engineer and Novice Architect very fast. I became a novice droid engineer to make droid storage compartments for the stations that I sold to make money. Now that I am a master architect I sell furniture/houses to pay for my chef grinding. So, I highly recomend taking on another elite proffesion before becoming a chef!

Also: Architects are easy to level up because structural modules give 500 exp each and a wall module takes 10 of them and gives you 1.2k exp! Droid engineers have to make medical modules and mse droids for ALOT fo resouces and only get around 140exp! Architect is limited by resources, other proffesions limited by TIME.

There's several chef recipes that are definitely significantly better than domarts stuff... but in the end its all still crap... I just posted a thread about my disappointment at a Mix III, cooking IV buff that gave +53 quickness for 91 seconds with 2 charges... stupid
