Hi Chefs and Chefettes,

I'm currently a Homemaker based in Eclipse.Corellia.Doaba. I have been "planning" to become a chef for a while, but can't commit. What I read hear, plus all I see of the game myself, makes me think that I'll not be able to shift the food I make, even if I reach the upper levels of the profession.

When I first bought the game, I had aspirations of droid engineering. I gave them up when I realised there were going to be a multitude of those. Now I am considering once again its merits.

So ... does anyone in here have some advice for me. Please bear in mind I have read the other threads, so if you can restrain yourself, I would appreciate you not using this as an opportunity to launch into lengthy rants.

Some particular questions whose answers would impact my decision:

1) Are food/drink buffs as negligible as their reported stats make them seem or can experimentation push them up into really useful numbers.

2) Are there people out there willing to buy chef produce regularly enough and for enough money to make cheffing reasonably lucrative (as/more lucrative than running missions).

Answers from high level or master chefs would be preferred, since they have the most accurate perspective. Naturally, I expect the lower level chefs to be finding life hard. After all, if your apprentice has an easy life, he'll just get fat and lazy - especially if he works in a kitchen!

you'll make money once you can make tatooine sunburn. Market it to carbineers and bounty hunters, and offer discounts for large orders, and they'll be around you like flies... I'm now having to refuse orders.

Until then though you are worthless. After that, you are a one-trick wonder.

Also, you're making a choice between two crap professions... you do realize that droid engineers probots are being nerfed, and that crafting/medical droids are currently broken, right? I'd suggest staying away from both

Yeah other then the sunburn consider your other products worthless. Also you will get regular customers but not neccessarily enough to support you. Most likely you'll spend your day running missions like many of us has. Results vary from server to server though, so check with Chef's in your server.

Thanks for your advice. I will take it under consideration and maybe have a chat with Validon in game if I get a chance. Seems like no clear signals still. Eventually it is probably just going to come down to me making a decision ... or is it?

any higher in chef seems pointless now I have desserts 4 cooking 2 and mix 2 and still the only thing worth making is tatoonie sunburns

perhaps if I had cooking 14 the Berry Wine might be useful

I'm a Dancer as my main profession and i can say that there are several players on Sunrunner in Coronet that stand behind the bar and sell Action boosting drinks and food. in a cantina crowded with aspiring musicians and dancers any action bonuses are in high demand. this past saturday there were two players that had to go out and gather more materials in order to keep up with the demand. keep your prices reasonable, constantlyremind people of what you are selling,and explain to people who might not know how to use the food properly that they need to eat it when their action bar is full. you should do ok then. remember, something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. and that one persons trash is anothers treasure.

corellian fried ice cream and Ryschate are 2 of the best in the game. They are both the smaller childs of the masterchef products thakitillo and Breath of heaven.

both VERY good products, and pretty darn easy to create compared to some of the mix drinks.

they are not that good rythcate is only goof for focus I can get it +245 all str focus quickness still no one wants its other then I need to put my armor on

I tried with a master doctor it reduces his healsa tiny amount not that much at all ..

and the ice cream I just got and havent made any been too busy trrying to exp to cooking 4 in hopes I will help out my other foods a great deal

but as someone who actually is high level in a combat class and hasnt been grinding chef constant I can say that chef buffs besides starshine surprises are of little use.

The only class that would benifit alot of Rythcate is the image Designer and the medic but otherthen that Tatoonie Sunburns over the action and health fine

Hrm, I'm not selling sunburn yet, but I'm still getting a reasonable amount of orders. Mystuff seems to be popular for the follow reaons:

- Roleplay. People see a chef and go - cool, that's different! I've had orders for romantic dinners, crazy drinks, etc.

- Pets. Sure they don't care about quality, which sucks, but creature handlers will buy in bulk. And a lot of people have so much money they don't mind paying $150+ a pop for the crappy Stewed Gwouch I'm grinding and would otherwise throw away.

- Putting on armor. Haven't migrated your stats yet? Eat some stuff and you'll be able to wear that great new armor!

- Bugs with stats stuck low. After a rez, or being incapacitated, people can get their stats stuck and not get back into battle. Eating food with the right stats seems to jumpstart it, and a lot keep food on hand for that reason. Good for us while the bug exists I guess.

- Halfway decent buffs. Not everything sucks. And the secondary buffs (like stamina, willpower) are better than they look, cuz they help you regen your main stats much faster. I would thinkwillpower would be especially useful because nobody can heal mind on thefield anddocs can't buff it.The tree is completely unbalanced with some of the nicer stuff in artisan and some really crappy stuff higher up, but there's still a few gems in addition to sunburn.

Walk around with your chef title, set up a merchant in a good place and label it food, and do some marketing, and you'll sell reasonably. I'm not getting rich and I really want some class improvements, but it's not completely awful right now.

Are you suggeting i'm not high in a combat class and don't know the benefits from my food?

I'm halfway to master rifleman, and i've found my other buffs to be fantastic.

Bio engineers love anything that has to do wiht mind, as sampling is quite demanding.

I also have master doctor and combat medic customers that claim significant results with mind foods.

Not only that, my master architect friend sells all of his customers things like thakitillo +veghash to balance out any incumberances imposed by the armor.

I think desserts is one of the better trees to climb.
