Thread: My God, has it come to this...
First, a little information: I have 2 characters. One is a Novice BH who also has some Pistoleer skills. The other is a Novice Chef. So, for information regarding my first character, I frequent the BH and Pistoleer boards. For info on my Chef, natuarally I look at this board.
All I ever see in the BH/Pistoleer posts are things like, "dabblers suck a$$" and "move all decent specials to master". These people make me sick. Like they were never novices and never used those said specials to level.
Now I see a post on this board where someone makes the comment, "Looks like we have another Mix II/Cooking IV". What the fuc-k. This is the frigin' Chef forum. Now Master Chefs are getting the attitudes that the MBH have...it's incredible to me. You should be happy that anyone is going to learn any Chef skills. Without a vast percentage of Chef characters, our issues are NEVER going to be addressed. But no, you are going to ridicule someone for "dabbling".
If I hear someone say "we need to move Tatooine Sunburns to master" I am going to fly off the handle, hunt you down with my BH/Pistoleer character, and incap/no deathblow you for a day straight. j/k but seriously, we need to WORK TOGETHER.
Go ahead and one-star me; it's fine. Things like this are why the Chef profession will never be fixed or modified to make the game more interesting for us Chefs.
Theres a good point to youre arguments and of the masters tired of dabblers. Im a master CH right now and I have to say I'm glad these new nerfs are coming cause it will get rid of the epidemic of CH dabblers and wont hurt me almost at all.
However with the BH Chef issue is much more complicated. How many master BH are there? How many Master chefs? Much less then there should be cause as soon as you can make tat sunburns with some decent experiment points thats all you need or with the BH's case you can just go up one of the weapons trees andbe happy as a clam. I think the BH offsets this though with how many skill points you need to tie up in it to get BH at all. 2 Novice masters is a huge skill point dedication.
With Chef its a whole different ballpark all you have to get is lvl 4 on one of the artisen trees and thats it. And the fact that tat sunburns are pretty much the most usfull food in the game makes dabbling rampant with chefs. I think all that needs to be done to fix this is not making tat sunburns a master only thing but to...oh i dont know...MAKE THE OTHER FOODS WORTH WHILE!!! hehe sorry but this has bothered me with chefs for a while all they have on thier vendors are tat sunburns and somthing to offset the down effects of it. When i even ask a chef to make some cool foods for me they usually just say take a sunburn its the only good thing ive got....this is pretty sad.
I guess it all comes down to the devs finally gettting to this tree and fixing it which I have a feeling will happen with this next big patch with the whole player owned canteenas and all. If its not well....they need to get thier butts in gear and fix it soon.
However, they do have one legitimate concern, and if they understood this they could call for more appropriate fixes.
When a small subset of the profession gives almost all of the desired benefits of the entire profession, it invites a disproportionate number of "dabblers" (which, in itself, is just fine). This upsets the masters because they worked much harder than said dabblers, but don't get much more for it. It also upsets some of the dabblers, many of whom don't want to play the profession but are forced to due to the overwhelming advantages given that template.
Now, it's clear to me that the masters and the dabblers are both affected by the same problem, and need to work together for a solution, such as rebalancing the skills so that there is proportionate reward for time invested. Instead, they blame each other for their problems and scream for the devs to nerf each other.
In my opinion, the masters who try to lock out dabblers are wrong, but so are the dabblers who take advantage of overwhelmingly powerful templates, and think everything is just fine.
I find all these posts about Sunburns interesting. I am a master chef and have been for a while. I have actually only sold 1 case of sunburns which actually was when I was 0/0/2/4
. The only cases I have made since are about 4 or 5 specifically for PA members by request in trade for some resources (Meat). I sell about 6 other items on a regular bases and luckly even with the bug enough to keep me from going under. I even sell individual items on the bazzar of lower items i.e. Durindfires, just ot get my name circulating. Those have even generated a few case orders for them as they are cheaper and some peopel can't afford the Angerian Fishak cases.
My point being after a rmbling is, to me Sunburns mean nothing. I am surprised masters worry about these. I think the other food is under advertised and peopel don't know about anythign other than the Sunburns. The solution is not to worry about Sunburns, Advertise the other options out there. I run 3 factories 24/7 and can't keep up selling the other items.
"Looks like we have another Mix II/Cooking IV"
I said that
lemme tell ya why. Lots of people "dabble" and get there.. and quit. And basically their sunburns are as good as mine. And i'm a master. and i can't make anything better than a sunburn, even at master
so, naturally, i hate dabblers cuz they can make the same thing as me at much lower skill points
and less grinding and take away my business
so, if i see a bit jaded, be warned, I have reason
The Mix II crowd are just players that are smart enough to realize that there is no reason to go higher (right now).
All foods should be Sunburns, and Master Chef foods should be Super Sunburns.
I welcome all the Mix II players...the more voices we have asking to be fixed, the better chance we have.

Master Chef
Ok...
The mixII/cookIV backlash was pretty bad a while ago, before people realized that there are pretty good and marketable foods in all 3 trees (Ryshcate, Veghash, Ice Cream, Ice Blasters, among others). To get a good level of buffs, you need to dabble in all the trees, and then a lot of that stuff is eclipsed at master, so why not go for it?
However, the sunburn is an icredibly unbalanced food with the rest of the chef items. It is literally an order of magnitude more powerful than the rest of the foods at its level. It is the equivalent of giving weaponsmiths the T21 at tier 2. BE's thekimogila at tier II. Armorsmith the advanced composite at tier II. Etc, etc. Thing is, most crafters in those professions master it to get those nice items, and probably 2/3rds of the chefs don't.
Now look at some existing dabbler templates. MixII/CookIV is probably going to go away because of the rebalancing that will take place in 3-4 years
for the chef profession. SOE seems to be against dabbling to the extreme when everyone seems to do it, and the trees get a little adjustment. A great example of this is all the CH's that are 3/2/0/0 that will go away once the CH rebalance goes into effect, or the BH's thatare 0/0/4/4 that will go away when they nerf pistol speed bonuses to master BH (I think that will happen).
I fully support making sunburns a master item. Of course, I'd still be happy if they just fixed a lot of the other problems with the class and let the mixII/cookIV chefs have their day.
