Thread: Wedding Cake, an idea just for fun

Just to take a step back for a moment from all the doom and gloom, here's an idea, a fun one I think...

OK there's no wedding cake for occasions. There never was (it was just a hard-to-make Aircake) but some people wanted a new graphic for one and we didn't get. A minor gripe, and it can certainly wait while other things are sorted out. But if they do put one in later...

Say we do get a wedding cake schematic, with its own proper decorative multi-tiered graphic. Sure it still doesn't really do anything, but through experimentation and resource selection you can increase the size of the finished item (as it appears when dropped). Now here's the thing. Suppose that the ingredients contained an optional 'wedding cake' slot. You can combine wedding cakes, adding the sizes of them together. And each new combined wedding cake can be used in the slot of another cake. Only problem is that the bigger the cake becomes, the higher the risk of critical failure.

What I'm suggesting here guys is classic cook-off material. Who will gamble to make the biggest wedding cake around? Basic ones might be pretty small, but imagine the temptation of trying to make a huge cake twice the height of a wookie.

OK so infact there might need to be a range of artwork to cover broad size ranges, with scaled graphics inbetween, but that isn't too difficult surely! Any Dev Artist could knock those out in no time.

It's not all about buffs and heals you know!

That would be awesome. I would love to have that on display. I doubt it will get implemented but it sure as hell would be fun.

That's a pretty neat idea. It's pretty obvious that the game engine uses at least some "stretched" meshes (compare squals and leviasqualls), I wonder if it's a simple multiplier on the same base code. Although obviously the skin texture would start getting pretty grainy unless you had more detailed ones for the larger meshes.

::wonders if you could make the top of the cake reach the second-floor balcony of a large Naboo house with 20 stacked cakes::

When I first got chef on Live (August-September last yesr) I went up the desserts line first (after mix2 and cooking of course).

I was so disappointed when Wedding cake only looked like Aircake. I'm hoping the multi-teired beautifully-rendered wedding cake appears someday too.

You know I think SirVimes doesn't like me. I've come up with lots of neat cheery ideas in my time you know and he never pats me on the head! lol

I think it's a great idea. It's kinda like the current lightsaber one where the previously made one has to be used as a component for the next one.

Maybe Desserts 2 could make a one tier, 3 make a two tier, 4 make a three tier, and Master make a gigantic one? The first one requiring a sweet cake mix and the fruits and berries like prepatch, second requiring the same plus a one tier cake, etc, etc. I think this would be spectacular, and if no one else, I will definitely pat you on the head!

*pats on the head and gives you a cookie and milk*

I like it. Would be wonderful to serve something other than aircake at weddings.

Thank you all! Especially Leilani for the pat!

Guess it could be different recipes from different skill levels but wouldn't have to be- that way it seems like there'd only be 4 different sizes whereas I like the thought of having a smooth scale (larger-scale textures and/or meshes notwthstanding) with no fixed upper limit (it just becomes improbably difficult / lucky). Masters and Quality-Resource-Hunters would have an edge anyway since less likely to critical.
