Hello Chefs,

I am a Hologrinding Chef, it is my third holocron, and my first crafting profession that I have experienced. I am 7 days in and at 2043, should be 3044 tonight, but that is not the point. I have been reading your forum and am starting to understand more about the profession. I must say that it has really turned my head.. I bought 8 BER 10 Medium harvestors and gathered resources, and these are the first ones that I have ever used. Even the gathering resources part is fun!! I have read all about the re-vamp and it sounds like there are going to be some exciting changes, and benfits for the whole profession. I have come to realize that there are no chefs in my PA and that I could be an asset to my guild mates if I explore chef further. In the end ya'll are making me consider dropping my favorite profession, Creature Handler, that i swore i would not give up, in order to stay a chef after master and continue on my path. This is crazy, because i never thought that I would want to do a crafting profession.

What I have found is that I like the complexity of chef. Well, ya'll have me hooked, I guess i am a big eater, what i really need to know is their as much income potential and profit in chef as compared to WS and AS? Are ya'll wealthy players normally, i.e. several million credits, or do you find it hard to make alot of money? I have just been making things, not selling them, and I don't have any chef friends, so I thought ya'll would be the people to ask. I have been a combat player who thru normal missions and selling meat usually keeps about 800K in the bank.. But then I go buy more Krayt guns or better armor and just throw the money away. If and when I open my jedi slot I know that it will be expensive to maintain a well equiped character... So I think that chef will be a good fit for my main. I appreciate your reponse.

I don't think that chef will make you as rich as weaponsmithing. You will be able to make a lot of money though, especially if you make quality items and harvest your own materials as much as possible.

If you buy all of your materials, you will need to make money on volume rather than cost reduction, but either way you will make and spend millions of credits.

I make about 3-4 million credits a week, before expenses, but I work mybutt off staying mostly in my city (also a mayor) and dealing with customers and citizens.

Sure Chef can make you rich.

cheers!

It maybe ture for you, but certainly not for everybody. On my server, some chef (not sure if they are chef) are selling Ryshcate for 15k, Tatooine sunburn 24k and Fishak 40k. that means 10 to 14 cpu for the resourceses used to make those food. That's good for most of us. but not then you also take that you need 3 to 4 days factory run to make 20 crates of fishak and grinding quality resources are selling at 3 to 5 cpu into the consideration. not even mention that some of the high quality we are using are selling at as high as 10 to 20 cpu (meat are even much much higher then 20 cpu). so, enjoy to be a chef, but don't expecting to make millions of credits (you may still can ).

When anwsering this question, i think that we have to adress both prerevamp and postrevamp.

Prerevamp, certainly, it has been possible to earn a million cr a week or even more. There are only a few chefs on most servers, plenty of business to keep you busy, most chefs are friendly and cooperate with each other than stepping on each others toes or trying to run each other out of business. This is not to say its easy. If all your wanting to do is make money, get a bunch of heavy mineral harvesters and sell basic resources. Much less effort. Be a Chef because you like doing it, because no matter what level of money you aim to make, you'll work your tail off getting it. But yes, it is there to be made if you want it and you don't have to gouge anyone or anything. Just treat your customers right and charge what you feel is fair for your time, costs, resources and hardwork.

Post Revamp, which is in a matter of days, who knows what that environment will be like. Probably it will work out and we will still do allright. But its not possible to say right now. Everything depends on the reaction of our customers and if we can provide them what they want in the manner that they want.

I personally had sales of 1.5 million in a 3 day period as my top sales record. Others have even bigger operations than i do.

It's currently possible to make a LOT of money as a chef, at least in my galaxy.

However, it is also a LOT of work.

I spend several hours a day making schematics, juggling factory hoppers, hunting down resources, tending harvesters, answering customer inquiries, sorting through sales notices, and stocking the vendor. I've got stellar time management going but I still can't seem to stop to take a breath. Just when I think I might have time to talk with friends or hang out in the cantina or roleplay, some bozo buys every scrap of Ryshcate off my vendor and I have to go restock.

I do have a lot of fun with it, and have met some interesting people and made a name for myself in the galaxy. That makes it all worth it. But if I was only in it for the credits, I'd be better off using my time to get MCH and grind out 20k missions all day.

I appreciate all of your responses. I am currently a Master CH and have been for a few months. I have tamed rare pets, bought and sold everything in the galaxy when comes to critters. I feel that I have explored everything there is to do with CH, and I have never crafted anything. The Holo brought me to chef, and maybe the complexities with additives and experimentation are the same for all crafting professions, but I have found this to be a new challenge that opens up the whole other half of the game that I have not been experiencing. Before jumping in I just wanted to make sure that I could make a comparable income as with other crafting professions. I am not solely after the credits, and even if I was, grinding 20K missions all day gets old in about a month... I have been down that road.

My plan is to master chef by this weekend and then set up shop. The next set of questions, and I have read all of the Chef guides so if its in there and I missed it then I am sorry for asking. Please let me know if this is correct:

Chef Business - Single Account:

1 Medium House 2 Lots

2 Factories 2 Lots

1 Reactor 1 Lot

1 Medium BER 10 Flora Harvestor

1 Medium Chem Harvestor

1 Medium Mineral Harvestor

1 Medium Gas Extractor

1 Medium Water Harvestor

Would this be a good set up OR should I lean heavier to a particular type of harvestor and buy the missing resources... i.e. 3 flora harvestor and buy minerals and chemicals instead or harvesting them?

I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Hello,

For a single account, utilizing your 10 slots, this is what I would do...

Slots 1-2 Small House

Slot 3 Flora Harvester

Slot 4 Flora Harvester

Slot 5 Flora Harvester

Slot 6 Food Factory

Slot7 Food Factory

Slot8 Mineral Harvester (post patch: Gemstones for your drink containers)

Slot 9-10 The "rotation" slots. You can juggle around whatever resources you are lacking. What I reccommend doing is getting two harvesters of each resource type that you frequently use and just set them down for three day periods. After three daysutilizing 2 +8BER Harvesters, you can get probably around 60k resources on a concentration of 80% or more (my math may be slightly off - but you get the idea). Then just plop down a different set of harvesters for whatever else you may be lacking, and so on and so forth. Oh, and I would reccommend shopping around for a reputable "radioactive" dealer to power everything up and offer to buy in bulk (most dealers will give you a discount for this). Flora is more expensive to shop around forin the long run, and it is more cost effective utilizing this setup (harvest your own, best way to go). Reccommend shopping around for resources that you "rarely" use too, it helps you keep up with your own resource demands.

I think you can probably get a way with inserting a 4th flora farm in place of the mineral harvester. There are plenty of places to buy steel or gemstone. Its lack of floras that will kill you, because no one sells them usually.

I usually operate flora farms in pairs, so with four can be pulling at two different spots with two harvs. we go thru tons of flora.
