I just picked up Novice chef today after working my way up the Dom Arts tree and its like a slap in the face.

The foods i can make that give food XP are worse than the ones I could do in Dom Arts IV. I have a good few customers in my PA who buy buffs from me and I cant see whay they would want the new food I can make as it is worse than my old food.

I think the basic problem is experimentation. I got very good at using experimentation to produce good quality buffs in the old tree and with 7 points at the end lvl i could make some good if low lvl buffs.

Because the chef tree does not in fact build on the lower tree and you start off back with 2 experimentation points the food i can make is virtualy useless to my clients, sure I can grind but i refuse to do this as I have never had to in the past and it makes the game no fun.

I would not take much to corect this issue, If you started with nine points of experimentation at novice chef and then built on that we would be making much better bufs and they would get even better as went up the tree.

Tie this with a balance pass on the profesion and you turn the chef from the under dog he is now to being a useful part of the community

What do you guys think.

Down with the grind

The only profession that builds upon its base profession is doctor. The rest make you start over. Not the best of solutions perhaps.

I became novice chef yesterday. I was ready for the big slam back to the bottom. My hope is that they fix chef foods so they are at least an improvement over domestic IV stuff. I like the domestic line. It has some good items. Like a weaponcrafter who can build awesome weapons at higher skills, a chef should make awesome foods.

It seams crazy I can't belive it is supposed to be this way, The food and drink that I make at novice chef must be an improvement on Dom Arts or what is the profesion for.

I hope SirVimes will bring this up in the next email to the Dev's maybe they will adress it in the balance pass we have been promised, but it looks at the moment as if a lot of these profesions have been cobled together with very little thought or design planing.

Most of this goes against common sense.

My granny could design a better profession than tis and she's been dead for 10 years.

The crappy buffs for chef items was indeed submited last week by the Chef correspondent. Just look in the forum.

Q's post has the chef designer saying there needs be a FULL balance of the chef schematics, because the buffs are indeed meager compared to domestic arts.

Frankly I think the chef foods should take more resources too. I mean a starshine surprise gives something like 100xp a pop...yet the most I can get as a novice chef is 40xp. Plus you need an ass ton of food to get 1 skill box.

As a novice DE I think I have to make 140 MSE droids to get a skill box. As a novice chef I think you need something like 400 wastril bread for a skill box. i'd rather spend more of my resources and grind fewer items like other novice crafter professions.

The slam isn't as bad as some people say, you just have to be willing to grind up to cooking IV (or at the very least II) to make any chef food worthwhile. It sucks at the beginning, but with a little rebalancing (I can feel this coming next month ) it will be worth all the extra points.

Once you get up to around cooking 3 you really notice an improvement. My experimentation rates dropped from 55% failure rate using all 2 experimentation points at novice chef to 18% failure rate at cooking 3 using all 7 experimentation points.
