Thread: XP given vs XP needed. Any advice for skilling up?
Thank you. I read the FAQ and it does seem like not all the recipies are giving the correct amount of xp. Would be good to make a list and have it submitted for fixing.
I thought it was by complexity as to how much xp an item gives, but apparently not. Well, making bread. Shall we all be fat from carbs, or I just won't tell people that will happen. heh
Thank god that I don't have to make bread all the way to master. How much xp does this itherian mist give?
And do I really have to make bread for those 90k xp?
Won't there be something at alchohol 1 that gives more than bread?
I would swear I used to get 157 exp from practicing Ithorian mists, but today I'm getting 178. The base amount seems to be 170 now...didn't it used to be 150?
Whenever I learn a new set of recipes, I go through and make all of them and write down the experience I get for each item. I got Mixology 2 a few weeks ago, and I got 170 exp for it. So it hasn't changed recently.
Exp granted isn't based on complexity, but merely on resources used in the crafting. (why its not is beyond me, as that seems like a perfectly logical method...which would give you a little more exp when experimenting...but I digress)
Most professions get just over 2 exp per resource...so either chef is bugged, or we only get 1.75xp (rough estimate cuz I suck at math)
you can grind out chef, or you can take it easy and grind out 20 'meals' (20 charde, 20 wastril) and then sell it cheap in cantinas. Medics in the med center might like hte charde (+60 to mind for 260sec).
Honestly, I tell people the food is free, but tips are most appreciated. most people will give me 50 cred per item (so 100 cred for a meal) but you'll get those super cool combat types who tip 1,000 cuz they know chef's tend to be hurting for money.
I also make meatlump and almond crunchies. Skip the blap biscuits, unless you need gen. crafting exp, or you find another player that needs gen. craft xp...and use their components (so they get usage xp). You do NOT get Usage exp from using your own components.
I took the Desserts skill tree first and have had good success so far.I made wastril bread until I obtained Pastebread, which gives 90xp. I then used that until I got Kiwik Clusjo Swirl, which gives around 180 xp per combine, and doesn't need any components. I'm still using this to grind with ![]()

I also went the mixology route. And not for the sunburn, either,I really want to be a bartender. Well, ok, not *just* for the sunburn... Anyway, at mixology 1 the Deuterium Pyro is a pretty good xp source. It's 45 resources, you get 100 xp (105 with practice), and it doesn't need a crafting station. The only catch is that one of the resources is Reactive Gas, which can be a little more difficult to get than the cereal/berries used in Wastril Bread.
As Ida said, whenever you get a set of new recipes try them all out! If you don't have the necessary resources, go sample a couple dozen units. If nothing else, you get a good feeling for what you can make for when those players see your shiny "Novice Chef" title and ask whether you've got anything that can buff action. Plus you find out which ones use the "2xresources" xp calculation, and which ones are off (either higher or lower).
