Thread: I finally reached MIX two and Sunburns! yeah!
Well i finally made it. makin sunburns now! Finally i might get some money.
I look on the boards and such and see that people are selling for anywhere from 350-550 per charge depending on the server. Great!
I go check the bazaar in Theed on the Intrepid server and find a guy selling Sunburns in 8 charge stacks for 175 cr per charge. ARRRRGH! Its the best thing we can make and people are now selling it for dirt cheap.
Luckly i have my own cafe to sell out of, so i feel justified putting mine up for 400 per charge as its a ritzy place. We'll see if they sell.
Now to go find someone to make me a factory...

I'll also sell you a 41.25+ quality crafting station for 25k too. At least one of my stations is used by a Master Chef and two others by lower than Master level so you be the judge.

My alternate (Tasama Zyokadan) is grinding it tonight. I just piled up another 15k of wheat for him so I should be pumping them out shortly. Hope to be there with you shortly.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in and get some opinions on pricing.
I just came to Chef after quitting Master Architect (also on Intrepid) because, well, Master Architect is no fun for me. Your mileage may vary, and if you are an Architect please take no offense. Experimentation and materials mean nothing to an Architect, all items are the same. I had a great deal of fun moving through Artisan and experimenting on weapon powerups and foods for different effects, and Architect offered none of that. Chef is another story.
Chef may not be as popular as other classes but at least it's fun to hunt down the best materials and try to produce something a little better than I've done before. It's definitely more satisfying. I've already got Mix II, Cooking IV, and am crawling my way up the Desserts tree using resources from harvesters I built for myself before kissing Architect good-bye Forever.
Anyway, coming from Architect (which I will mention no less than 8,000 times in this post), I'm a bit curious about price schemes. I've already thrown out a few experimental items on the bazaars, trying out different prices to test the waters, and had varying results (some of the ones I threw out, in hindsight, were probably a little underpriced or overpriced so I try not to think about them).
Pricing, as some of you may know, is a major problem for Architects and ultlimately drove me from the class. Some Architects (that I know of) on Intrepid, sell their structures for up to 30% less than you could get just selling the raw materials on the bazaar - not just novice items I'm talking Medium Houses here - and that didn't make a great deal of sense to me. When I'm setting a price for something I look at several things -
1) Demand - Obviously items with better buffs are in higher demand, as are those with larger stacks.
2) Time alotted - items with components should cost more even if that component takes just a few resources.
3) Resources, rarity of resources, and structures required (factories, harvesters for large amounts of quality material, etc).
So lets take Sunburns, our most sought-after item.
A Tat Sunburn (or Liquid Courage as I call it) requires 100 units of material, all of which are relatively easy to come by if you've an eye for good material. The gas can be a problem from time to time, but it's not a killer as even with sub-par gas, Sunburns still come out pretty darned good.
Sunburns require a little extra time, because they have two components. They also have an unspoken requirement of a factory because, well, who the hell wants to make all those starshines by hand. (Not me. Glad they fixed those factories.)
So with this in mind, the above-mentioned price of 500 creds per unit, gets you a MINIMUM of 10 creds per unit if you have no Cooking and are making crummy 2 use Sunburns. A lot more if you can make stacks of 5, 6, or 8+ from Cooking IV and decent goods. Coming from architect, I have to say this is PHENOMENAL. Covers your resources even if you have to resort to buying them, and leaves a fair bit of profit.
Now I have this to ask - and this is not meant to be smarmy I just really have not given selling my food the old heave-ho yet and genuinely want advice - Does anyone pay this much for a six minute buff? I mean 3000 credits for a stack of 6 Sunburns is a fair chunk of change. I know a dedicated moneymaking character can cough that out no problem but will they pay it?
I really want to know. The idea of charging a great deal more for a better product (i.e. one that I can make because I have high cooking skills and good materials) is the very idea that drew me to this class.
Does it work?
Let me know.

"Hey vishna let's go find this chef selling sunburns for so cheap and beat him up."
Ok first off this is NOT a flame at TrooperZ, and I realize he was probably just trying to lighten the mood a bit, but this also makes me think of another question.
And yes, this does involve me complaining about dropping Master Architect again.
On Intrepid, at one point, a group of Architects got together and tried to figure out some way to keep the prices from continuing to drop into the toilet. We came up with several different plans, and, well, none of them worked. In fact, some of the folks I sent the list of suggested prices out to more or less just used it as a baseline to determine where to begin screwing people. The sad fact is, there was nothing we could do about it. What could we do? Find the offending person and... do what?
Tell people to buy my more expensive product just because I'm a nice person? That didn't work, though I tried.
Violence is not an option, even if I were a violent person. Violence is just not an answer in this game. If you challenge folks to duels they can just refuse and possibly even /addignore you and ban you from their house so they don't have to listen to you anymore. Sure maybe you can hunt them down in overt PVP - if they are ever overt - and 'show' them by... sending them to the cloning bay for two minutes? Yeah that'll show them.
For chefs the answer is simple. If you want people to pay more for your stuff, make a better product. All the tools are there, experimentation, materials, self-promotion both on the bazaar and in forums such as these.
Didn't work so well for architect, all their products are the same. But a good chef might have that edge.
Anyway something to think about.
