Thread: Drinking for RP purposes. Pointless?

I typically hang out in a cantina pitching my wares to the patrons. I enjoy this niche greatly, but lately it has begun to feel hollow. I mean, asside from some minor stat shifts, drinking in game has no outward effects whatsoever. No after-effects from drinking tons of booze. No emotes or messages indicating that something has been consumed. No graphics to indicate a person has a drink in hand.

If anyone has played EQ before, you know that drinking has some comical effets in game. The more you drank, the less intelligent your typing became. For example, if you typed "Hey, I am getting really drunk!", it might come out "Hty, I km rettihg rewlty frunk!" Plus, in full-blown hammered mode, your character would sway from side to side, and your screen took on a funky elongated 'drunk-perspective' look.

I would love to have this kind of drinking come into play in SWG. As it stands now, after drinking 4 drinks, a person becomes full. Well, how about adding unlimited drinking, with every drink after 4 counting towards getting drunk? That way drinking for stat gain is still useful, but overindulging in a cantina can be accomplished.

Also, how hard would it be to add a text message and emote when someone drinks/eats ("Bobo consumes a Meatlump with gusto" <Bobo rubs his belly>. Or how about a frosty mug in hand? I mean, there are dozens of pistol graphics... can we get a glass graphic when a drink is equipped? As it is now, it hardly seems worth the time to actually drink for roleplaying purposes at all. I might as well pretend to give them a drink, and have them pretend to drink it. No observer whould know the difference...

Anyway, just my random thoughts on the topic.

I would rather see them focus towards making the food and drink more useful then spices and at least compete with doctor buffs first.

I do like the idea I would also like to see a way to Serve Food and drink with out a trade menu which would make custom buffs.

I think that would be a great thing to add along with graphics of holding food/drink. I catered a party the other day and it was defininelty missing something. However, people still did enjoy RPing.Someacted more drunk as the party continued onward. Some even appeared to have over-indulged, and I was not handing out spice...

One nice RP addition that i didn't notice untill last week was the NPC bartender. There is one in the Mos Eisley cantina, and sells all drinks for 3-10cr (no stats). I hope this is a nice step towards making RP happen once drinking/eating animations are in the game. Now I can drink all the blue milk I want without horrible, horrible guilt.

RP BARTENDER? thats hoorible. I hope they don't do that everywhere. That is the main thing i play for, I stand behind the bar and serve drinks and generealy act bartenderish. Ya know, listen to peoples stories, tell a few of my own, give out the occassional mission. Clean glasses, Tell people when they need to leave ^_^. If they put npc bartenders in all the bars that completely kills my game. By the way, I sell jawa beer for about 10cr. It is pretty much useless, but fun for a basic drink in rp. I would love some drunk effects though. like two starshines getting you completely plastered.

Fun dies as Political Correctness flourishes. Well not see getting drunk or "high" anytime soon, I'd bet.

Has anyone seen an NPC bartender outside of Mos Eisley?
