Thread: New Kid on the Block With a Question

Greetings fellow chefs. I mastered chef yesterday after creating Botack two weeks ago, and naturally, I was quite excited. Obviously my next goal is to try and break into the market and make an impact and hopefully a little bit of money. Unfortunately, funds are too short to go out and just purchase the necessary resources for food and drinks(about 400K). I have managed to get my apron, private crafting station, factories, etc., but I need those all important resources. My currentplan is to wait around for a bit for some good resources to spawn on my server and harvest the heck out of them, but it will likely bea month or two until I could gather some good resources to make good products. Question: how did you go about starting up your business? Similar approach to what I'm doing?

I am in the same boat as you (trying to get started..). I put a few things on the bazar in the MO on Dant the other night and got a few tells right off the bat. So maybe that will be all I need to take off as a chef. Also my chef is a musician so she will mention (in groupchat only, no spatial spam) where her vendor is although I have gotten 0 hits from that so far. If you figure this one out let me know =).

I was a little bit lucky when I started. I already had some of the ingredients necessary because I'd been placing harvesters on decent flora on and off. If I were you, Iwould shop around for the best deals on really great resources to get the business started off with a bang. Ask on the forums. Post about the ingredients you're looking for. Even try asking on the auction and planet channels. You'll find someone with something good.
Set up harvesters on whatever good spawns of any kind of flora you can find. You'll come to see that you use a ton of berries, fruits, greens, flowers, tubers, and general cereals, so if you have several goodies to choose from, put as many harvesters on as many of them as possible and harvest, harvest, harvest.
Also, if you have some combat skills, you may want to go out and start gathering your fauna resources. Carnivore meat is a biiiiig one.
Try getting started on the components if you have enough resources to make a large batch of each. I'd suggest making alcohol, dough, carbosyrup, and soypro. Protatoes and sweet cake mix gets used less (at least in my shop because I haven't started retail sales ofpyollian cake just yet), as does veghash (Veghash as a component, that is. Actual veghash with an additive included is something entirely different, since that can be sold as is.). At this point, I'm only making bantha butter if I have a special order to fill. If you can get your hands on some BE nutrients, you may want to start working on making the additives too, if you have enough factories to do it all simultaneously. You'll find that having components ready to go will help a lot instead of having all the resources and then having to wait longer to get going because you have a factory run of components to sit on.

Thanks a lot for the replies, I really appreciate your help. Another question has just come to me: Exactly how good is good for resources? I'm currently harvesting a spawn of fruit that is DR 719, FL 619, PE 998, and OQ 926, as well as some 971 DR, 806 OQ water vapor,which I think is pretty good, but I'm not sure.

I'm sure others will be able to give you a really good estimation on what kind of brandy and canapes that fruit will make you, but without doing that, I can tell you that it's pretty nice stuff. The DR and FL will affect the filling, quantity and duration a little bit, but it won't make a huge, huge difference I don't think.
Water's not used in a whole lot aside from making additives, for which quality is unimportant, but that's a nice spawn of water you have.
I've been having trouble finding a good spot for water, period. I'd take 100/100 stuff if I could find a good vein! lol.
