Thread: Negative effects on food, details on bug
It's been mentioned here at least twice that negative effects on food are having double the negative effect over what is shown on the food. I thought I'd do a little controlled test to verify this, thought people might be interested in the results.
Summary:
Sunburn drops focus by double the advertised effect, and only returns half the drop after the effects have worn off. Your focus will be stuck at the negative described by the sunburn until you eat +focus food, which seems to fix the broken stat and then add on the +focus effect.I would assume this bug applies to any negative effect food/drink.
Drinking a second sunburn after the effects of the first have worn off restores your broken focus, and then breaks it again, so you don't get any more broken after multiple sunburns in sequence. However, drinking 2 sunburns at once doubles the broken focus, so you definitely don't want to do this without some +focus food around.
I suggest /bugging this and including in correspondent reports.
Tests
My normal stats are 300 str/stamina, 500 focus.
Test 1:
1. I drink one serving of Tatooine Sunburn, +1564 to str/stamina, -96 focus. 6 minutes. My stats change to 1864, 1864, 308. That's a -192 to focus, or double the effect. The str/stamina increases are correct. I actually see the focus display drop twice in the character display, -96 each time.
2. I wait for the effects to wear off. My stats are now 300, 300, 404 (and remain that way even after waiting a bit). That means the positive effects of the sunburn have worn off, but the extranegative effects still remain. I'm not sure if the negative effect ever goes away on its own, after relogging or zoning or whatever.
3. I eat one serving of Gruuvan Shaal: +122 focus, 1.5 minutes. My focus jumps from 404 to 622, which is +122 from 500. Basically the shaal fixed my broken focus stat, and added the proper focus in addition. I actually see the focus display change twice - first it hops to 500 then it hops to 622.
4. I wait 1.5 minutes. Mystats return to normal.
Test 2:
1. I drink 2 servings of sunburn, one right after the other. My focus is now 116, or 4 times lower than normal.
2. I wait for the sunburns to wear off. My stats are now 300, 300, 308. That means my focus is down -192 from normal, -96 for each sunburn. This remains indefinitely.
3. I eat that Gruvan Shaal. My focus jumps to 622, fixing the broken focus and then adding 122 to my normal focus. After a minute and a half, the shaal wears off and my focus is back to normal.
Test 3:
1. I drink one serving of Sunburn. My focus is now 308, or -96*2 drop.
2. I wait for the effects to wear off. My focus is now 404, or -96 from what it should be.
3. I drink a second Sunburn. My focus is now 308. The sunburn restored my focus to 500 first (I see a quick hop), then drops it by 96*2.
4. I wait for the effects to wear off. My focus is now 404, or -96 from what it should be.
5. I eat a bofa treat (+36 to action), just to see if a non-focus food will fix my focus. My action goes up by 36 but my focus remains broken.
Test 4:
1. I drink one serving of Sunburn. My focus is now 308, or -96*2 drop.
2. I eat some gruvan shaal, this serving having +106 to focus. My focus changes to 510, or a 210 increase. 210 = 96+106. That means I got the positive effect of the shaal, plus it counteracted the extra -96 focusin step 1.
3. I wait a minute for the shaal effects to wear off. The sunburn is still going. My focus is now 404 (other stats unchanged). That means I'm down to -96from my original focus, or where I shouldhave been after step 1.
4. I wait for the sunburn to wear off. My stats are back to normal (300, 300, 500).
ok, if this is not documented well enough to warrant a speedy fix, then I honestly think there's no hope for any of us.
Thanks for taking the time to doing this, and doing it well... The only thing missing from this report is an investigation into whether it's a visual bug or a functional bug.. i.e. does this affect you character other than just visually on the char sheet.
You should be able to check this by determining how much certain actions cost you (/survey would be a good one, as it takes from mind only) when you are really -96 down, and when you have consumed a sunburn and it says you are -192 off.
