Right!

So I got to Domestic Arts IV finally. I was thrilled. I been making AirCakes and Jawa Beer to get through the XP grind, but since I am a scout and medic as well as a Master Marksmen, I use the xp I get from all that and put it towards Domestic Arts. I like the food aspect, but it seems I am the only person who understands the benefits of something like Teltier Noodles, or the bonuses any of the food gives you. Does no one else?

So I read around the forum, and I noticed a few things. I know this may be awfully redundant, but I need to ask for myself.

Why is no one eating? Why do people only buy food for pets, and if so, do pets at least benefit from the bonuses? No? OK. So I like the sound of making some Jaar and other drinks, to be sorta like a bartender, but I can't find milk. Is there Milk? I don't have a schematic for it, so I search lairs. I find a lot of things, but no milk. I forage. Foraging I found all kinds of stuff, but still no milk. Ok. Whatever. I come here and read bug bug bug bug.

Still the fact remains, given the level of players in this game, are chefs going to ever be successful? This being my first MMORPG, and being I am an old fart, maybe it's me. I thought it was a wonderful idea for a profession, and I like to cook IRL, but do you think the average teenager playing this game is going to see a need, much less spend money on food?

Forgive the ramble, and I am not really complaining here guys, but even if they fix or nerf or whatever new term you guys use, are players ever going to see a need for food in this game?

Please note this very well may be my own personal experience so far ingame. I can't give away food unless it's to CHs.

People see a need for buffs. It's why sunburn sells and doctors obsess over making the best buff medicine possible. Buffs have been a big part of massively multiplayer games - people get it. If our buffs were good they would sell.

I've been thinking of heading to Chef, myself. Had Dom IV forever (was a Casual III tailor briefly)... and I enjoyed making some of the foods I could make at that level. I would -use- them, too. I didn't really SELL many, since it was just a side hobby.

I'm afraid a lot of people don't know the benefits of food, except for the notorious +1500 STR/STA one (which I fear might be in the nerf-bat's target sights )....

Creature Handlers should be a steady market, at least, and you could always experiment up the quantity to make the food more appealing --- I don't know if stats work on pets or not (doubt it) but having 11 food in a stack instead of three will be appealing to the CH, since they won't have to occupy as many inventory spaces.

Unless they increase the benefits (and preferably duration) of the other food buffs, though, I don't see many people buying food very much... the Tat Sunburn (or whatever it's called) would sell nicely I imagine, but kind of lame to have only ONE thing to sell (and at Mix II no less).

As to milk, I've looted some from plasma thieves (like 4 units, weee) and that's apparently the only source... although there was talk about increasing the supply somehow. Eggs allegedly can be /searched from lairs, but all I've ever found are bats, butterflies, moths, glowzees and bees.

I definitely do NOT want them to implement forced eating, like Everquest had. Although it would certainly make food more in demand, I am strongly against any more 'required' spending in this game, and buying food all the time would get tedious -real- quick. Best not to tick off the player base by even suggesting it. They just need to make food more appealing.

I havevirtually the same career path (Novice Smuggler now) and found the advance to Dom Arts IV not too bad thanks to crafting exp from camps and traps. All has changed now, though, and it is definitely more tedious to get that novice chef title.

The only foodstuffs that seem to sell on the bazaar in Coronet on Bria are Teltier Noodles and Jawa Beer. Nothing else really moves. In response to that, I've made factory batches of noodles and beer and plan on going to the cantina to role-play and give them away. This serves three main purposes: makes use of factory products that come out with only one usage; educates the public to the benefits of food and drink; and, helps advertise my vendor (which I don't have, but will as soon as I do this give-away).

I've heard of milk being found while foraging, but I've not found it myself and someone posted about it being bugged. Others have said that Bounty Hunters can find milk as loot on certain marks, but that certainly will be in small stacks unsuitable for mass-production.

I'll feel bad for the full-time chefs. I have the smuggling thing to keep me busy as I work toward being a bartender, but I see how frustrating the current system is for dedicated chefs.

Ida,

While I agree, I was just wondering. Thanks for the response. I would imagine though, as I climb through the Chef skill tree that the buffs do indeed get better and better for players right?. I mean, I as a shooter and combat type as well, was pretty impressed with even the Teltier Noodles. I experiment them up pretty good, given the right ingredients. I even try to convince people of this whilst I scream in Cantinas and Medi Centers and Banks across Corellia. People always say the same thing.. "Can I feed my pet that stuff?"

Maybe I need a vendor. I can become a Chef without the need to make ridiculous amounts of money off it, because it is still fun, but I am just curious.

Thanks guys!

Yea I've found around a dozen eggs after searching around 50 lairs, and those odds aren't going to cut it.

I also am trying to be a Smuggler/Chef, as I thought the combination of the two skillsets would compliment each other quite nicely. Throw in some Pistoleer, and you have one pretty happy player!

I just dont want to end up feeding pets instead of people. Thanks for the wise words though. We'll see what happens. I am a casual player, so maybe in the months ahead it will take me to climb through the ranks of the chef skill tree, they'll fix more and more. Though, more stuff will break too, but we can always resort to faction missions right?
