Thread: My biggest Chef issue is our Factories
If this was the only chef issue that got fixed in the next 3 months I could be happy. Well... maybe not but I still think getting our factories fixed should be our number 1 priority
I can tell you now - chefs will have a greater impact on the player economy almost immediately if this one issue gets fixed. Balancing of the food buffs is also important (VERY important), but I think the analysis that needs to be done to balance the buffs across Dom Arts and the Chef line will take a long time. I'm hoping that fixing the factory crate issue will be an easier issue to fix and give the chefs some happiness while the other issues are being worked (see chef forum post "What are your top 5 issues?" created by SirVimes AND answered by Q-3PO). When chefs are makin' money - they complain less...at least I'll complain less!
Here's to hoping for bigger and better fixes for the chefs in the next patch...until then, keep grinding ya'all.

I know I'm in the minority again with this issue, but I have no problem with the way the factory situation is at current. My customers know that if I provide factory crates of food that they will receive a more consistent, usually higher, buff than they will if they receive "stacks", but at a higher (3-5 times) cost. As such, I am currently backlogged on both factory and food bag (stacked) orders. Different customers like different things, and it is easier to spend the all my limited experimentation on nutrition and flavor, foregoing quantity, for the factory runs.

Unfortunately, I am not able to convince myself to under-utilize my resources when I make crates (personal stubborness). It doesn't hurt the customer at all since we can adjust our prices accordingly for the smaller number of product produced(like you mentioned), but it hurts us since we go through much more resources for less end product. If I could get myself to accept that fact, then maybe I'd have more time - and possibly more money...who knows. I may experiment with your method and see how I do.
I guess this is to my disadvantage...but I hand experiment individual items and then sell "travel packs" or "satchels" of food versus using crates because of the bugged factories. Ofcourse, if there is a food that I can't possibly experiment on to make more than 1 charge, then I make those in crates (I had to that with Wastril for a while cuz I had so little experimentation points and so-so resources). I also use the factories for sub-components - but that should be a no-brainer for all chefs and factory usage.
I agree though, if the customer wants crates and is agreeable on the price, then by all means, give them what they want. Different customers want different things...heck, selling crates would save me from A LOT of hand crafting things one by one. My personal stubborness is what separates me and you, that's all. I want the most for the resources I get - especially if friends of mine have worked hard to get them(more personal stubborness).
Otherwise, glad to hear someone's back ordered...one day that'll be me.
To be honest, I share your stubborn streak. Mine manifests itself slightly differently, that is all. With limited experimentation, I find I would rather not concern myself with stack size. To date, the only time I've used the quantity experimentation was when I was working with a bad set of ingredients for Blap biscuits, and managed to hit BOTH the soft cap on flavor, and nutrition. Otherwise, for me, it's always nutrition first and foremost. It may be cheesy, but in a way, the problem with factories, allows me to compete as I know the maximum nutrition/flavor combinations I can work with given any set of ingredients. Those who sell stacks of anything over 5 are by far outproducing me, in that aspect, as even the best ingredients will yield 5 in a great assembly. So, in a way, my acceptance of the bug is selfish, and stubborn.
