It seems while venturing into crafting profession forums that crafters do not seem to have a secondary combat profession in many cases. Am i missing something? I have master pikeman, I am going to get master chef, and i will still have enough left over to keep Pharm IV and some diagnostics and first aid as well. Now granted, there are much better things to be than pikeman (uber TKA?), but it seems that many crafters dont do much fighting. I find it helpful and a good break from the monotony that can occur in crafting (and vice versa). Anybody? Besides chef, what are your secondary professions?

I'm a master merchant in addition to being a master chef. It was my primary goal for my character. I've been a merchant in every game that would let me, and having it be an actual profession here is just awesome.

I had master artisan as well, but my partner convinced me to drop it to pick up more fighting skills. (Mostly so he'd have someone to go out dying with, I think. ) So I dropped MA and the Engineering line, and picked up pistols IV, exploration II, and some ranged support. I'm not sorry I did it, it does make the harvester runs a little easier. And there are 2 master artisans among the tenants in my shop, so I can always hit them up for schematics. Though when I asked the MA/droid engineer to make me an all-great-or-better Dough schematic, after 40-something tries he finally handed me the schematic and screamed, "You win! Chefs ARE worse than DE's!!" *laughs*

Maybe it's a chick thing, but I don't really enjoy fighting for its own sake. For me it's a means to an end - to get to my harvesters in one piece, gather meat and hide, or socialize with people who like to fight.

Ahhh...good point about the Merchant tree. I have ignored that to this point, but at least getting a vendor has crossed my mind. I forgot that when i posted this....cuz i will have to probably drop something to get a vendor. On that note, maybe you could answer a question for me? If i get enough business to get one of those hideous bulky vendors, get the vendor, then drop business three, do i still get to keep the vendor?? I am thinking probably not, but i am hoping. I guess it's a testosterone thing....but i've gotta get out there and fight! Thanks for the response.

There WAS a bug where if you dropped business III you got to keep your vendor. I'm not sure if it's been fixed or not, but if it hasn't, I wouldn't expect that to last forever. And would suck to have your fully stocked vendor suddenly go missing some patch day.

It's no biggie, businessIII only takes 6 extra skill points. Still leaves room for lots of combat skill.

Merchant sucks up a lot of skill points...and as far as MMORPGs go, I really think the combat in SWG is awful. The crafting keeps me in, maybe it's all the crazy numbers

I've got Novice carbineer, and am probably going to give up the engineering line in Artisan to move through a singleCarb line. Otherwise, I'm capped. I've got enough scout that it doesn't take me all day to climb a mountain, and enough Merchant to keep a fairly vigourous bidness going on three planets... and that's about what there is room for.

(I'm going to be trying to move around on Dath soon ... using the suggestions Odds and K made. One thing: I always assumed these planets would get tougher the further away from outposts you got. As the core planets, generally, get a bit tougher away from cities. I found it really interesting that this isn't neccesarily so - Odds comment about the ring of baddies often surounding outposts.)

I'm travelling for the next four days, so am off the boards and game till late Monday. (jones, jones, jonesin already) Hope there is good news from TH over the weekend.

That's cool --

I'm actually a master pikeman/master chef myself..

I find it works *very* well. I'm currently picking up the meditation and striking trees from TKA to get the /powerboost and the extra defenses.

With powerboost, Breath of Heaven, and two vegeparsine I've basically got +400 to every one of my stats.

Needless to say, it makes for a very effective melee fighter..

Good luck!
