One day I noticed my Ranger had 1000 crafting xp. I said 'huh?' Turns out making zillions of traps and camps gives incredible crafting xp. So I got novice artisan for the heck of it. Then I notice the buffs I get from the food and get curious. Just by making my bases and traps I was soon up to eng 4 and clothing repair and the much-vaunted'homemaker' title. Then in Ranger I got a field base with a Food and Generic Crafting module in it.

Sitting there on sojourns waiting to heal, I really started cooking. All I needed was oats, wheat and water, and berries. Hides, bone and meat I have tons and tons of. Soon I was an expert on which meat was the tastiest. During downtimes sitting in camp, I would crank out K-18 rations, Aitha, Air Cake, Ruby Biels and Jawa Beer. When I went back to the outposts I would sell it. On Lok and Daththe above-mentioned items sell easily for 200 each. People are starving there! Corellia I could sell them at a slow rate for 150, but in Lok or Dath I couldn't keep them on the market for more than a day. Usually I'd hear the sweet, sweet sound of emails notifying me of succesful purchases within minutes of putting them on the market.

One thing I found is very few people bother to eat or drink in the game. I try to educate them. I never sold food P2P, just over bazaar. I've given away a lot of food to everyone I meet. Still, no one seems impressed by it. But I have food and drink in my toolbars. I never got hungry / thirsty and my hams were always regenerating at a nice rate.

Then, I ran out of skill points because of pistoleer and ranger. Sniff. Sniff. All I can say is when I retire from fighting I'm going to be a chef. Cooking kicks ass!

And Bantha beer. Made from real Bantha-hide flavoring? That made my day.

For now, if there are any chefs on Starsider who need a reliable ranger to haul in supplies, you can count on me. Give Ypiana a /tell in-game.

I think there is a strong market for chefs. I rarely see food on the bazaars, and have never had an item that didn't sell.

There IS a market for it, you just need to look around and find the right places.

I was struggling mightily trying to sell my stuff on Corellia. It would sit on my vendor or the bazaar for a week, I'd drop the price, and then maybe it would sell...all be it slowly. Only a few core customers kept me from going under.

Then I travelled to some of the outer planets just to check them out. Believe me, the travel costs are well worth it. I stack bazaars full of my food & drink,announce that it's up there,and they generally sell out that day. The best places to go are military outposts, especially the busy ones, like Endor or Rori. Generally I'll have to restock the bazaar four or five times in a day. Then with the profits I can jet off to some other planet and do it all over again.

I'm finally having fun as a chef! And making money too.

A big frustration of chefs is the stuff you can craft in artisan are very competitive with most chef items, and better than almost all novice and tier one items. Just as a warning if you decide to go into chef.

No problem, Ida. I'm somewhat of an entrepreneur IRL and have never had a problem making a tidy profit in SWG.

One of my friends on Eclipse gave up because he said he couldn't get anywhere or make any money. I laughed my -ss off when I heard that.

Ah, if only making dough IRL was as easy as this game.

haha!! this is exactly what I'm doing!! and I understand your issue w/ lack of skill points. I will be giving up pistoleer points so that I can master chef and get a bunch of ranger skills... but I'm not exactly thrilled.
