Hello chefs of SWG,
Sorry to invade yourforum, but I'm bored at work and I've just had an ideaspring into my head and thought I'd share it with you guys for your opinions, feedback and if neccessary flames.
Q. Why are there no Chef's in the Cantina's?
This was the question I began to ask myself, I mean, we have all seen ANH and the classic scene in Mos Eisley cantina (probably my favorite scene out of all the trilogy along with the Darth Maul Fight) where Obi and Luke go up to the bar and ask ther barttender for some drinks. Now I was thinking, what way would it be possible to encourage chefs/bartenders to take residency in a cantina. Here's what I came up with,
1. Give the chef an additional bonus to experimentation if he makes his food in a cantina (i.e you could place a crafting station of some sort or create a chefs crafting station behind each bar in every cantina)
2. Increase the buff duration or stat enhancement of the food/drink iis freeshlly made in a cantina and consumed within a few minutes by a customer i.e. you have 2 mins after a chef has passed u his freshly created vasarian brandy to consume it otherwise the additional cantina consumption bonus runs out.
3. Have a chef registration terminal similar to that of doctors in med centres, so we all know if there is a chef serving food and drinks in a cantina
4. Any freshly cantina made food or drinks need to be consumed on the cantina premisses. The buff kicks in after 3-5 mins after consumption as long as the consumer is still inside the cantina. A better buff is given if sat down at a table.
5. Certain Cantinas have "House Specials" that can only be crafted and consumed in certain cantina's. The "house specials" offer additional bonuses/buffs that are not normally found in your average chefs food i.e. instead of getting doctor buffs, you could go to "the Lucky Despot" and order there house special, which will give you the same stat buffs as a doc's stat buff. This would also be a great way of minimizing the current trendof huge buff queues and downtime.
6. An increase in buff stats or buff duration if a dancer/musician had registered with a cantina chef and the food/drink consumer is watching/listening to the dancer/musician whilst eating or drinking.
7. A cure fire/disease/poison drink that needs to be freshly made and consumed in a cantina within a few minutes after creation.
Anyways, those are a few ideas I came up with. I sure would like to hear chef's feedback on these ideas, what is and isn't feasible and any other suggestions you may have.
Thanks for listening

When reviewing stuff like this, I always like to rate them against systems already in the game- the less the devs have to add or program, the more likely we are to get it...

While this would be nice, I don't see them adding any more bonuses to crafting for anyone.
2. Again, I don't see them adding additional bonuses/buffs; if anything, they will decrease them as balancing issues in the coming months.
3. Have a chef registration terminal similar to that of doctors in med centres, so we all know if there is a chef serving food and drinks in a cantina
Excellent idea - it mimics a system already in place for fixed-city structures (hospital) and is not a balancing issue. I don't see why this can't happen rather quickly.
4. Any freshly cantina made food or drinks need to be consumed on the cantina premisses. The buff kicks in after 3-5 mins after consumption as long as the consumer is still inside the cantina. A better buff is given if sat down at a table.
Not sure any system requiring extra timers, etc, otherthan those already in place will be added.
This is a neat idea and would definately get people to visit more than just the Mos Eisley cantina. I don't, however, believe that they will add any more buffs or bonuses, especially ones that encroach on other established professions.
6. An increase in buff stats or buff duration if a dancer/musician had registered with a cantina chef and the food/drink consumer is watching/listening to the dancer/musician whilst eating or drinking.
Again, nix the increased buff. But the entertainer registration terminal would go along with the chef one and mimic the hospital nicely.
7. A cure fire/disease/poison drink that needs to be freshly made and consumed in a cantina within a few minutes after creation.
These are already in-game and established between the professions - I don't see them adding another system to do the same thing.
Overall, I think the registration terminals are the best bet and most likely to be implemented. To go along with that, I'd like chef-specific mission terminals in cantinas.
Keep them ideas coming!

Let's just hope if they are implemented they aren't anything like Entertainer missions.. 200 credits every 10 minutes!?

Thanks for the comments and feedback guys. The whole point of the post is to somehow tie Chefs to Cantina's in the same way that Musicians rely on cantina's to heal people minds. And to make Cantina's a useful facility. I remeber when I forst started to play this game, Cantina's were greate places to socialize and meet new people. Nowadays, you tend to only go in them for one reason, to get a mind heal or if you are lucky enough, a buff off a master dancer/musician.

A little more extensive, but how about another building altogether? Say a restaurent or something similar to that. Could give increased buffs or some sort of advantage, maybee less filling by a certain percentage.
Just my two credits.

There are many possible bonuses, its just a question of how much the devs think is too much. During our revamp it was stated that we were being balanced for the combat balance already. I'm not sure if I believe that or not right now. Although I do fear that with the norm being BE food, that food will be toned down to a point where regular food offers next to no bonus at all.
A new restaurant would be a nice idea, but that goes back to my lot issue. I already don't have enough lots. If I had more time to actually do something with a cantina I would probably have one up, but as it is all my time is just take with making foods and stocking my vendor.
I'm sure this isn't the opinion of all chefs, as I would definately guess there are some out there that are a lot more interested in role playing than me.

Hi there.
I used to hang around in NPC city cantinas once in a while and serve drinks/snacks before this whole hologrinding nonsensedrovethem into the ground. The reason I'm not in the cantina now? Most of the people there are annoying, miserable wretches.
I still pop in to cantinas on the adventure planets sometimes and annoy people with my goofiness just for fun, though.
To give my personal opinion on your ideas: I think it might be neat to add some type of minor perks to food-serving in cantinas. But, anything that further serves to chain me to my kitchen by requiring certain conditions be met for food or drink to work will be met with bitter, bloody resistance. I'm already throwing myself at the feet of passing bioengineers for access to their 'optional' food perks. Chef is a very intense, time-consumingprofession and removing the free eating aspect of any of our products would make it a real pain for everyone.
You want to get chefs into the cantinas? Find a way to populate them withreasonably conscious,good-humored people who can speak coherently and appreciate a little light roleplay.
Just my 2 credits.

Just one more thing, on this:
The whole point of the post is to somehow tie Chefs to Cantina's in the same way that Musicians rely on cantina's to heal people minds.
You can't reallydo this. Musicians provide a service based on skill and the use of a permanent tool. Chefs are making goods. Physical, consumable objects which require any and every type of resource that must be harvested or haggled for, a multitude of componentsthat we must run infactories, bits from tailors, bits from bioengineers. More combining, experimentingand re-running than you'd ever want to know about happens just to make a single crate of common brandy. It ain't pretty, and it can't happen in one box.

I too been thinking about this for a LONG time... I mean come-on, we are chefs, cantinas should be at the center of our trade (selling right there or supplying the cantinas if you'r a "wallmart" chef). But I think the solution is rather simple, three things and where there:
1) Uber Food station in Cantinas. (So novice chef will stand there)
2) Bonus of a certain % if food is consumed in cantina. (in particular for stomach filling since eating in restaurant do tend to help digestion, instead of running around fighting, gobbling down canape and spiling brandy while firing at an ennemy.)
3) A Food/drink only vendor (like the bazaar) in the cantina. (For us Big Crate-Chefs)
Voila, Big Chef/Food presence in the Cantina, where we should be....
P.S. A long time ago (I started playing in sept03) I became a member of a player city. So I go see the mayor to get the building rights, we talk a bit and eventually I ask him If I can put food/drink for sale on the vendor in the cantina... Told me I had to talk to the Business Leaders in town. So I contacted them and after a couple of emails I finally figure out there's no food vendor in the cantina, they'r all in the mall... No point in puting one in the Cantina they said...

How aboutpeople being able to place orders and once you drag the drink onto the order you get the credit reward... sort of like a dynamic mission.
Now im an extreme newb to chef foods BUT from what I know there isnt any CLIENT-eaten food for mind healing... It would becool if this food could only be server in cantina's and would make BF and mind healing faster/Increasing entertainter buffs.
