you need to be near a food crafting station to initiate the experimentation menu

And you need a specialized crafting tool. I don't think the generic one will do it.

Also, experiment ation is broken. Don't be surprised to see that you have an Amazing Success only to watch the buff go from 140 to 80. Conversely you will also see a critical failure and see the buff go from 95 to 145.
I've given up on experimenting for the time being.

ok, i looked and looked for an explanation thread on this simple topic, and found NOTHING that satisfied me. so please don't flame me for posting this if it's already been done because i cannot find my answer anywhere.
EXPERIMENTING...
so i use the specialized tool at the station and i make my schematic, blah blah blah.
so what do i do with it now?
Someone told me they thought i need to find someone with a factory to help me out, if that's true what the crap is the point of experimenting until you're in an elite profession, i mean who can afford a factory as a novice artisan??
so is experimenting reserved for the masters only, or can we use it to make goods people will actually buy before we master an elite profession?
PLEASE explain this in-depth process of the point of experimentation and how to use my new found schematic?

schematic's are only used if you want to mass produce the item in a factory. If you just want to create one, then create a prototype instead of schematic. This doesn't take a factory and the item is deposited into your inventory.

yes, i stand at the crafting station, experiment, then create prototype...then in inventory i check stats...so far my experiments don't give much of a boost, but i am just starting...

oh! so we can experiment and create an experimented prototype - no need for schematic?
that sounds much different than what i was told (and much better).
lol, i always wondered what the point of experiementing was!

Yup, you can experiment and then the final step you decide whether you want a prototype or a schematic.

Experimenting can allow you to tweak an item to some pretty good levels. I experiment on all my crafting tools to help me experiment on my Stimpacks. I can churn out some pretty hefty stims if I hit it just right. I add 50% more effectiveness on a Stimpack-B today. Of course if you don't hit it right you can ruin a perfectly good product too. Of course if you fail you can always just use it as a practice piece and get that added 5% xp.
