Thread: Crafting tools and efficiency

With the new patch, efficiency numbers on our crafting tools are now visible. While this is great, I must say it was a little disconcerting to see that most of the tools I was using had negative efficiencies. Based on my brief experimentation yesterday, here is what I've found:

  • Everything has an efficiency, which includes crafting stations.

  • The generic crafting tool you get issued as a newbie has 0 efficiency.

  • Based on the above, I assume that public crafting stations have 0 efficiency as well.

  • Using the generic tool and low-to-average ingredients without experimentation results in the lowest efficiency on a crafted tool, which is -13.xxx.

  • Efficiencies stack, meaning that the efficiency of your crafting tool and the efficiency of your crafting station both play a role.

With my meager skills and decent components, I was able to craft mostly +5.xxx efficiency tools, which was quite an improvement over my -13's. With one amazing success, I as able to get a +7 or so. (I used vefosis copper with 700ish conductivity and raczo petroleum with 900ish decay resist). However, it was at this point that I decided to check my crafting stations, and I was disappointed to see that they were both -13. I suspect that this will be the case with many of you, because pre-patch there was no incentive to experiment on crafting stations.

I'm not sure what all the efficiency affects, but one thing I noticed was that I was able to hit a higher cap on the buff attribute. For example, with the+5 efficiency tool, with experimentation Icouldcraft teltier noodles with +100 tothe first stat, but no higher. With the +7 tool, I could get to+102. While not scientific, this test was done multiple times with identicalingredients, so I believe it to be true.

So what does this mean? First off, it means that I need to sell my crafting stations (at a discount) and buy new ones. Perhaps I'll just get an architect to custom make them for me. Also, it means that you should spend some time at a public crafting station (or your own, if it's higher than 0) making new tools. If you're on Bria and need materials for them, let me know and I'll give you what I have.

I hope this makes sense and is helpful. Please don't tell any other crafters about it until tomorrow so I can sell my old crafting stations. Just kidding.

I have two crafting tools, one is a -10.4, and a new one I made is a 13.8 (95% experimentation). The two tools make identical foods, if the experimentation is the same in the window. I don't think you have to have a maxed out crafting tool to make the best foods, but I do think the success rate of the item is affected to it is easier with a maxed out tool.

Testing with 11 gen experimetation points and max gen assembly, I see no change at all in failure/success rate using the two tools. My food experimentation/assembly is only 5/50 however, and this seems to make a big difference, I really do see less critical failures and more great successes (still no amazing successes though).

Any other input on testing would be appreciated.
