Thread: Strange Experimentation Results

Ok, so today I was making a lot of starshines and they were selling on the market at a decent rate and I was getting orders in person for them as well. So I'm at the crafting station in town.

I was using the following materials to craft the starshines.

Reactive Gas - DR 356, OQ 295

Mineral - DR 812, 686

Wheat - DR 741, FV 141, PE 880, OQ 408

Crafting Kits used

Craft Kit 1 Effectivness -11.77

Craft Kit 2 Effectivness -6.65

Craft Kit 3 Effectivness -14.62

Craft Kit 4 Effectivness -2.98

I put 5 points into experiment on charges and 1 in nutritional value. I get a good success or a moderate success and it does nothing to the charges but slightly raises the nutritional value. This is disturbing

Percentages before experimentation

19% flavor and texture

17% nutritional value

9% experimental quality

Moderate success happened twice

19% flavor and texture

23% nutritional value

0% experimental quality

Good success

19% flavor and texture

22% nutritional value

18% experimental quality

The experiment was a success

19% flavor and texture

18% nutritional value

0% experimental quality

Good Success

19% flavor and texture

19% nutritional value

43% experimental quality

Great success

19% flavor and texture

24% nutritional value

43% quantity

The two that really disturb me is the are the bolded ones. I put 5 points into the experiment and get crappy results even though it reports a success of some sort. The one in italics bothers me becuase it reports a success of a sort and only gives me a small margin in the part I put 1 point and only an increase of 9% in the place I put 5 points.

I included as many factors as I could so that the information I presented about this issue is all correctly represented. Once I get my house up and get my crafting station I will try a more controlled experiment on these disturbing experiments that brought down the quantity to 0% even on a success message. Anyone else have similar outcomes in some of their experiments?

Let me chime in here, with an observation of my own.. I never did find out whether I should experiment "all at once" or in waves, to get the desired results, so I have tried sometimes to add all my points at the same time, and others, I add points a few at a time.

When I do the latter, what will sometimes happen is that a great success will decrease the final result.. I don't know if others have seen this.. it seems to happen to me when I experiment up to the next-to-last available slot in any field... the next time I try to experiment on that one trait, it will sometimes go down instead of up.. and this is on all kinds of successes.... strange that..

From what I remember reading about in beta and in the manual is that you get more results if you throw all the points in at once (and therefore increase the risk of failure). If you take the safe way out you will have a better chance of succeeding but will get less of an impact on the item overall. In my above post I did all at the same time, though if I get the chance I will play with doing one point increments to find out how things work there.

Let me drop in some added info

The quality of tools and stations make no difference in the game right now.
I crafted myself 9.93 effective tools, and i have a 9.93 effective crafting station (the max on starsider right now due to conductivity of copper)

I've done a lot of crafting recently, and did some tests using those tools and that station, with terrible tools on a really awful station. No difference in failure rates or added perks
