Yes, it works exactly the same as a post-patch alcohol (or a pre-patch alcohol, for that matter). There are no enchancements above using regular alcohol, so stocking up won't let you make Uber Vassarian brandies, but if you come across a spare crate of PU-36 a week or so after the revamp you'll be able to use it.
