So can you survive like that with the way it is today? Will your profits still be there?
I'm not sure I understand your argument, but this is how I see it:
BE Additives are a pain to make for anything more than a 2-4 crates of additives. Those small runs are the "reserve stock" and have a markup that reflects the increased resource/time cost. These are obviously much better than the basic food/drink, and those elitists that have a lot of money to burn, and have to have the best will pay for them.
The rest of the food is the same as it has always been. With all of the generic resource requirements, and 4 areas to experiment with, I'm sure there will be enough diversity in food to keep the chefs unique, and the public happy. It happens with Stims, weapons, and armorsmiths all the time, but they use only a small number of unique resources, and depend on component experimentation for diversity. The best chefs will know how to choose the right ingredients to make their dish better than anyone elses.
This is how I see the new chef profession, and I'm looking forward to it.
Something that I have been thinking of as well, that I have not yet seen mentioned....
Many of the new "revamped" foods are much less filling for a smaller buff. This of course necessitates the user to eat multiples to receive the intended buff (i.e. the "eat 5 Brandy's at once" example). I know to some extent this was to be balanced by the existence of casks and barrels to increase stack size.
But the fact still remains that the new food will be physically consumed at a faster rate, and as always (even moreso after the revamp), the more you can fit into *one* inventory spot, the better.
I agree with the consensus...currently I could not survive as a Chef selling stacks only. Couple that with the revamp food's filling changes, and it would be not be an issue of survival, but sheer tediousness that would cause me to drop Chef.

I am sure that SirVimes will clear up the confusion, but in the meantime I don't think that this poll is about removing crates from chef foods. It's probably about the fact that BE additives (which will be essential to making top notch foods) won't be available in mass quantity. You may not have enough of them to make factory runs. In order to avoid having an empty vendor because your few crates got sold out 5 minutes after you stocked, chefs will have to sell singles.
I think SirVimes is trying to make the point that:
1) This will happen with the current system.
2) The chef community will suffer because of the drastic game-wide addiction to high-end food.
I don't think that the chef profession will suffer from specialization, though. We'll just have more chefs than we did before, because when there is money to be made, people will step in to make it.
Pet Stim Ds:
24 units Fish
26 units Dantooine Fiberplast
Some Components best made by Master Doctors
When a BE makes these, they vanish off the vendor. But I don't know a BE that would make them in single stacks. They wait until they have enough resources to make a crate, and sell the crate. Although they are uber, people don't want to waste the space (which is the most precious comodity in SWG) and won't buy them.
I said crates of 10 before because with the price increase I expect from BE enhanced food, the price of a full crate (of 50 **wishes**) would be prohibitively expensive.
Most BEs are CHs. I know the one 17stim crate of Ds I made went straight into my back pack. I would never think of putting that on a vendor. Even the stim Cs don't see the vendor, the meat is too hard to come by for any mass production.
The BE components aren't as bad though. They are doable, but not in 1k runs. I will only be saling the 'reserve' stuff, hey I am both a BE and chef, and my tent partner, also a chef, will be doing the normal run stuff. I plan on crate sizes of 5 to 10 and they won't be cheap. I will not be doing singles. If they are so good to be sold as singles, will they will go to my back pack, if there is room of course. ![]()
I agree that singles are a waste of space right now, because everyone can produce huge volumes ofpremium quality foods. But if you went toalmost everyvendor and saw 2 versions of the same food listed:

I wouldn't sell singles simply because I wouldn't buy singles. It is a complete waste of space. I don't buy single stims, I buy crates of them. The one exception is on the Bazaar. I have from time to time sold many samples on the bazaar from the different crafting professions I've done.
Even with BE additives in food I will be selling crates. They just won't be full crates. Maybe 5-10 count. Maybe 25, but it will depends on the stack of meat I can get.
1)crates of 10 +500 buff, 5 usefood
2)stacks of +1500 buff, 10 usefood
What would you buy to use?
Personally, I'dbuy 2-3 ofthe single stacks. I might get a crate of the mid-level stuff for emergencies, but when I'm fighting, I want the good stuff. I think that given those choices, that's what most fighters will do. Why would they sacrifice 1000 pts of buff for a space or 2 in their inventory? They'll buy crates of the good stuff if they are available, but they'll cost an arm and a leg (a lot of people won't have the free cash to drop all at once), and they will be in short supply, driving the price up a bit.
I think that every chef will try to make crates of the premium items. I'm not sure how long people will be able to sustain it, or how successful they will be though. Eventually I think it will settle down to where most vendors carry a more specialized selection of foods, and people will pay more for thebest stuff, because that's the only way that they will get it.
Lordy lordy lordy.. Again, we have a bunch of negitive things coming from this re-vamp.. Where was all the good stuff I was hearing? Like how everyone was excited? Something else comes down like this, and BOOM we are back to "this sucks"
