Thread: Thinking of becoming a Chef

Hello all

My template is currently Master Tailor / Master DE / Master Artisan.
I'm thinking of dropping MDE and picking up Master Chef, thanks to the token respec. Sorry if this offends any players who feel I should have got my master chef by grinding, I don't mean to offend. I would like to ask a few questions, if I may?

Is it reliant on any other professions other than Bio-engineer ?
Is food and drink needed as much now since the CU ?
Does chef use a lot of identical components from factory crates in creating food and drink?
Is it a straight forward profession to get to know or is it a tricky one to pick up ?
Would you recomend Chef as a profession to pick up, is it fun ?
Are the resources used in chef hard to get hold of ?

Any other advice you could give me would be very welcomed.
Thanks for your time

No need to apolgize for respec, since that's what it swas designed for. I think Chef is a really good prof. As long as you have BE tissues, Chef is a very lucrative prof.

1. Resource collectors like Ranger. Upmost importance to find some reliable resource collectors and make them your friend.

2. Not necessary as before like pre-CU but as with anything, if you want to be the best whether pvp or pve you are gonna need foods and drinks and they still sell. Not as swiftly as before but still a demand for it.

3. Yes, yes, yes. Almost every food takes alcohol, soypro, casks, carbosyrups, and sometimes several per each item. You will need fulll runs of the components when making the schematics and only use the right serial numbered component in the factory. Only exclusion is casks. You can mix and match those.\

4. It will take time and effort to make top quality products but the profession is straight forward. No looted components and no real hidden tricks to making uber stuff. Almost always relies on the stats on your resources.

***Correction---the mandalorian wine schematic is a looted item but it is not as uber as it used to be. In fact I don't make anymore but might crank it out to try and offset the price I paid for it.

5. If you don't mind spending hours a day crafting, checking harvestors, placing stuff inand out of factories, running vendors, and so forth then this can be very rewarding and not only with credits. It's not for the casual player though IMO.

6. Resources can be harvested yourself or through vendors. Much cheaper to do yourself though. Your main concern will be getting bio tissues as it takes a ton of creature resources and you are at the whim of the BE. I can't imagine doing it without master BE on the same character or alt. When a good spawn of something comes out, place as many harvestors on it as possible and store the excess, you will eventually need it. Resources are the life-blood of chef and without quality stuff, you will make mediocre product.

Advice-----If you don't have credits going intochef, it will be a long road getting to where you will earn any. We use almost every flora resource out there and several of the chemicals and minerals as well. Then you get into the creature resources. I buy almost all my creature resources since I have master BE so I make all my own tissues. Takes a ton of factories, credits for maintenance, and the power to run them. If you plan on competing with the other chefs on your server, it is not necessarily a must, but I highly recommend getting the attachments for food experimentation to get you to 12 points. Most chefs are already 12 points and will be hard to make equivalent foods without it.

Mind I'm a bit surprised you don't you know that...

Thanks for the replys guys.

I have been a Master Tailor for about 9 months and have never been asked by a chef for Trim. I didn't know about that one. Thanks.

I'll have to look out for the CA's for Food Experimentation as well. Not too sure about these. If I have one that is 2+Food Exp, do I need to get 10 more to make a total of 12 points? Is that how it works. As you can see I have never botherd with these before.

First off, the most total points you can add for food experimentation is +25 but +20 is all that is needed to max out since the additional +5 will not give you any bonus. You start out with +100 to food experimentation when you make master chef which translates into 10 experimentation points to use on your crafting of the foods. You get a point for every 10 points to food experimentation you have. By adding a total of +10 food experimentation attachments to your chef outfit, you now have 110points to Food Exper. henceyou are now a 11 point master chef. Another +10gives you a total of 120 and 12 points for experiencing(12 Point Master Chef).

You cannot keep adding food experimentation attachments to the same piece of clothing.

Example: Take a shirt with 4 sockets and a clothing attachment +5 Food Experimentation. You place the attachment into the shirt. The shirt now has +5 toFood Experimentation andhas 3 sockets left.If you take a +4 to Food Experimentation and place it in the shirt. The +5 cancels out the +4 and the shirt remains a +5 to Food Experimentation. You also fill a socket so now it only has 2 sockets. Use different pieces of clothing for each attachment.

Same goes for the crafting apron for chef.(Easiest way to get started on your chef outfit). It has +5 to Food Experimentation already modded into it so you cannot add a clothing attachment that contains Food Experimentation to it as it will cancel out and just be a waste. This is also true with the Food Assembly that is modded on the apron as well.

Get an apron and take the +2 you have and put it into something like gloves or boots. You now have 7 points towards the desired +20 you need to max out. Go for +10 first by adding some cheap +1's or 2's to a set of clothes and start crafting as you canmake nice products with the additional point of experimentation. Once you get established you will have the funds to purchase the higher numbers needed to reach the +20 and you can replace the pieces of clothing as needed.

Thank you very much for that.

I never understood the 12pt's untill now.

Didn't mention it since he was a master tailor.

I can't add anything new but as a respec Chef and still relatively new to the proffesion.

Firstly the extra 2pts do make a difference. I haven't had time ot go harvest all my resources so in order to compete with the existing chefs on my server I ahve had to buy my resources. I have found I can still make a healthy profit and still buy me resources. Subcomponents do not require quality so stuff at 1cpu will normally do. I also have a miner who I pay 4cpu to get me 500k usually of what ever is good. When somethign uber comes up I will be asking him to mine 3m of it to last me so thats how I operate.

I'm licky that on my server that there are some very good BE's around who are very very reasonable on price. I also have found having a large numbr of factories to be very helpful especially when startign from scratch and after you ahve a stocked vendor you can make whatever you want in bulk instead of doing a bit here and a bit there.

I will say this, it might take quite an investment. I am impatient and have tried to hit the ground runnign as it were so despite my 4 weeks as a Chef, I have invested 70m and now have my 12pt suit, 2 sets of vendors, 36 factories, and an ongoing bulk contract for about 40m of food. I find it very time consuming but very rewarding and enjoyable.
