Thread: Food Duration (Balance)

So here's my theory, food doesn't need rebalancing, experimentation needs to be fixed.

Although the schematic info says differently, I'm pretty sure Experimental Flavour and Texture are based solely on flavour. My reasoning for this is the low values always associated Experimental Flavour and Texture, and the experimental max values for Exp. Nutritional Value are always different. I've never got a max value higher than 30% for foods that have ingredients that don't list flavour quality. However, in some components that use only organics, the Exp. Flavour is reasonable. If those ingredients without flavour are counting for 0 flavour, it would explain the low values.

Food Duration is based on Experimental Flavour and Texture. This can be read from the schematic, and easily verified by watching the values during experimentation. Breath of Heaven has approximately 600s duration at 10% Exp Flavour and Texture. Up from 360s at 1%, that's 24s per %. At 50%, it would have a duration of 1560s. Or 26 minutes.

Those number are remebered from this morning, not exact. I'm going to do some actual number research on this soon, to determine what the max duration of some food could be. If anyone is interested, I'll post my findings.

I think you're agruing the same point

I think Exp. Flavour and Texture is solely based on flavour.

**But**

Those ingredients (Water, metal, gas) that have no flavour count as 0 flavour.

So with aludian pu36 for example, which has equal amounts of each component:

Berries Flavour 1000
Wheat Flavour 1000
Metal Flavour 0
Radiotactive Flavour 0
Overall Flavour 50%

Try making bofa treats, or components. All of the components have flavour > 0 and he Exp. Flavour and Texture is much higher.

I have made bofa treats. I've made bofa treats with 950+ flavor for both components, and 800+ OQ and PE. I did not get anywhere close to 100% flavor and texture at max experimentation. By the schematic I should have hit close to 90%, by the flavor is everything argument I should have been close to 100%.

Duration is based on Shock Resistance or Unit Toughness

I forgot which one..

thats why using minerals you always get longer durations the foods that use all organics.. durations is one of those 2 things.

I'm pretty sure Experimental Flavour and Texture are based solely on flavour.

If that was the case, we would be able to max flavor with 1000 flavor ingredients. I have 1000 flavor items, and I don't get anywhere near to 100% flavor and texture. I haven't done serious tests, but I don't remember ever getting past 60% even with my best items.

Anyway, there is the basic problem that a master chef only has 11 points to experiment with. This means he can't come anywhere close to maxing flavor, nutritional value, and stack size, even if it was possible to experiment to 100% on all of them. I tend to experiment on nutritional value first (except for sunburn), because buffs are so small, then stack size or flavor with the few points remaining. This means I'm never going to get duration more than a a minute or so higher for more items unless I'm willing to sacrifice buff size which I'm not with the current buffs.

There are many many buffs that are1-2 minutesbase, somethat are 5-6 minutes, and only a couple that are 10-13 minutes. I'd argue that the majority of the buffs should start at 10 minutes or more, and be experimentable up to an hour or more. With a tough fight lasting for several minutes, you need a 10 minute buff to make it through one fight safely. The only use for a 2 minute buff really is a slight boost to regen when you're resting,or toput on armor.
